thedoorof the Safe was cloacdand the fire kindled ala
quarter past 2 o’clock, and In a short time the Safe was
red hot, andconunuediiil half past O,o’clock,hemff abom
four and a half hours, when tlie committee expressed
their satisfaction that the time occupied with such ieat
was sufficient* The furnace was then pulled down Safe
cooled, add door opened—the books I papers and numer
safe. . The heat was so great as to melt off the brass
