ON Tuesday afternoon, July ‘-'3,1843, the undersigned
were called upon by Messrs. lapj cncott 4b Barr, io
witness an honest and fair test of one o a their Phtrnu
Safes. The furnace being prepared, lac Safe wa* placed
inside thereof, with books, papers and some money; when
the doorof the Safe was closed and the Ore kindled at t.
quarter past ii o’clock, and in a short lime the. Safe was
red hot, and coutinued till halfyasl 6 o'clock, being about
four and a half hours, When the committee expressed
their satisfaction that the time occupied with such heat
was sufficient The furnace wait then pulled down,Safe
cooled, and door opened—the books, papers and money
safe. The heal was so great as to melt off the brass
mountings. We therefore take pleasure in recommend
ing these Sates to the public, as being, in our judgment,
