ON Tuesday afternoon, July 2x,1848, the undersigned

the door or the Safe was closed and the fire kindled at La
quarter past 2 o'clock, and in a short time the Safe was
red kot, and continued till half past 6 o'clock, being about

ttoiiiiting Bottle Jacks.
E subscribers have 'received Jutother.limalr lot of
I. superior Bottle Jacks, direct from Sheffield, war;
ranted to work well. In presenting this article to rho
notice of the pablic, the subscribers deem It necessary"
to remark, that dur.ng the last five years they have sold
several dozen, and as far as we have been able to aseer 7 .
thin they have givenontire satisfaction. To such-ca do
not understand what is meant by
. a bottle jack, we
would explain that it is machinery resembling clock
work, but much. more powerful, enclosed in a brais
trump, and worked by a strong steel spring; that its cc
tion is alternate, aud regulated - by a horizontal fly wheel.
to which is Impended the joint .of beef, or any Other
thing to be roasted ; that the machine when fully ,woontl
up will continue in motion for two or three hours:' The'
Jacks are generally used with a; screen or. a:latgelln
reflector, which greatly accelerates the proof of roast.
