The demand has been steady throughout the week, although the sales has not been as heavy as for a week or two previous, nearly all of the do. mestic houses are more or less employed. There is increased firmness to notice in woolen fabrics.— The lower grades of cloth are quite scarce, as the clothing trade is unusually brisk, and a large quan• lily is also needed to supply the sale.of the regu• lar Jobbers. The small quantity Glow priced cloths brought out by our importers, left a large field for our own manufacturers. There has al ready been a larger amount of trade, than the es tirnate which many made in July for the-who:fie season, and the influx of purchasers from the nor. them sections of the country has but just cormuen ced. There is a large eastern demand also yet unsupplied, and our own heavy retail trade is alto behind. The customers now arriving, report more tightness in the inland money markets than was noticed earlier in the season, although most of them pay up very svell. Brown Sheeting's and Shirtings—The advance in these goods is firmly adheared to by holders, and in consequence the sales of the less desirable styles have been somewhat checked. There is no doubt however, but that the increased price will be fully sustainet:. Of many well known brands there are large-Sales ahead of the production, and the demand is Unabated. We see from private let ters that the stock of heavy domestics in New Or. leans has been nearly cle, ned out, and have learn ed that of 1 vtl bales shipped to that port in A.u. gust there retnhins not one but what has been sold previous to arrival. This will give more anima tion to the market here. Bleached Goods—There is a less urgent demand for these than the grey goods, although there is so giving way rein quotations. As the activity in greys ingresses there will be fewer goods bleach ed, and we look for more firmness in all deserip, tions before lorig. Ttere is,o.rdtle mom iantiltr for wide goods for sh.eetings, and also for a light article suitable for linings. In general, however the market is cbiet. Prints—There has been a large demand for these goods, and tbiOs a leading feature of the week's trade. Prices 0 - of known styles continue firm, while some new!, styles have been introduced pay ing is trifle better than those issued earlier in the season. Our Printers have been somewhat dis couraged by the comparatively high price of the plain goods, and:our Own impression is that the fallastock will be closed up cleaner than usual. Printing Cloths—There is still a gull between buyers and holders, and the printers unless they can obtaie a decided advance on thetinished goods will not concede the advance demanded. Some sales have been Made at 48xCi1 4.1; 541 square 46 and 64,102 fr. Ve learn also that 4c had been offered for fr2s withotit bringing them. At Provi. dente, holders ire 'asking 5c for Olivia, but have submitted to several sales at 4i, which is as much as printers can gfye - in the pretent condition of the print market. F.#w transactions are recorded, as 'the views of buyeAs and sellers are in general so far apart—rnostqiuldera insisting on lie. Mousseline de tiainee r andtathmeres—The sere in these goods haaßb.een interfered with somewhat by the low price Of the imported recently sold at auction, ulihough.giatel styles have •not at all de -dined below previous rates. There has been a great mistake in - .Many styles of these goods, in producing so largrtla figure, as - when they fall into the hands of the ritailer he is frequentlyiett with a remnant of 6 , 0617 yards, which he must die.. pose of at a g reat Ihcrifice ;• while if the figure is small, and th pattern is neat, be can sell out to the last yard, at 11111. ,prices, for childrens' wear. This will make all OW prices goods, of large pat terns, unpopular wth the trade, The principal styles now selling ',ake at 17(i/18 for Mous de Lainea, 23 and 28 f;iriCashmeres. Cloths—lt will been by a reference to our reports of the aucti4ii.sales -that low priced cloths are sold under the hemmer at the full advance no ticed in our former numbers. This is about 10 per cent. over the talk prices last spring. Col.. ors are still in dentiand, particularly olives and browns. Blues arei;ecarcer than formerly, the stock having been SOmewhat reduced, with less production. Low.pOced wool blacks are now in least stock, and this style from $1,37 to $ 2 , 00 will be the most desirable oils in market for some weeks to come. Rey wool black and colorsiiii medium grades tor itiWrcoats, are scarce and would command an imrnedi4te sale. ' Cassimeres—We hfive seengood styles of fancy at 65073, which* eonsidef desirable. • The bet ter grades are tirmk •with increasing 'demand. Plain colors are now Ouch used, and theugher the better.
