This was very emphatically expressed in the MSS meeting in Allegheny, with lord chners front those busy men , s that hunted squirrels in Allegheny wheals wilder nem." They goon in perfect good order to read the proceedings of the Councils on the Tuesday night previous to the fire in Allegheny. It was then, they said, for the meeting of citizens to say if they (the 'Councils) bed done their duty or not. REYNOLDS, J. HARRISON, Committee ALLEOIIENY CITY, Aug. 8, 1849. The alleged Defalcation. The Washington Union furnishes the following explatiatien of the charge of defalcation, brought by the Republic against Mr. Denby, late navy agent at Marseilles: ' "The defalcation, whatever ho its amount, was not occasioned by robbery, but by the commercial embarrassment of a house in Richmond, which was to transmit the government funds to Mr. Denby, in France, and that house was ruined because of ill ruin which the revolution in France liai brought down upon the house there to which-the Richmond house had made its consignments. - The drafts were returned protested from France, and Mr. Denbra drafts shared a similar fate. Such is the account which we have heartier this transaction; and we do not hesitate to express our firm conviction that, in spite of the precipitate and illiberal libels of the Re. public and - the Patriot, the transaction will leave no 'stain upon the integrity of Nathaniel Dentiy, how ever liable be may be in law on his official bond +" Tho Riche - toad Whig glees some farther inform .tion upon the matter.
