NEW ORLEANS MARKETS
New Mum Awl, March 24, 1849.
A fair amount of business has been trauraeted in'
our market this week, more particularly in Cotton,
though prices have not improved, owing to the pow
erful obstacles which still exist in the shape of high
freights to Europe and low rates of Exchange.
Flour is rather lower and Western Produce, with
the exception of Lard Beef, has been dud and
depressed.
Cotton.. Yesterday the buying was pretty tease,
and 7,000 bales were taken, making the business of
the entity week 46,f.430 bales, divided prtheipally
among English, French and Continental purchasers.
lo prices, notwithstanding the occasional fluctua
tions above alluded to, we find no alteration sum
ciont to require a reduction in our last quotations,
and therefore continue them. The receipts proper
at all the United States ports is now 383,617 bales;
while at this port there's a decrease of 21,918 bales.

Sugar— Transaction, in Sugar have been more
hamled this week, end pnces have fallen off
from the highest figures of the previous one. The
entire sales are not over 3200 Mids., of which NO
were disposed of yesterday. We have reduced our
quotations, and now give t Lem as follows:
Inferior and Common, 210/31 ; Fair to fully Fair,
,• Prime and Choice, 4;05}) Clarified, 54
61c. p lb. Nothing has been done on Plantation.
Molasses.. Prices have again receded a liule, and
the market, with a large supply of the ordinary and
inferior qualities, is heavy. The week's sales, (in
cluding 500 yesterday) sum up only 2800 Mils., the
closing rates being 160 1 17 c. for ordinary, and Mil
Wu. fir gallon for fair to choice lots. No transac
tions, so far as we know, have occured on Planta
tion.
Flour—lncreased receipts, and a continued want
of export demand have given a further downward
inclination to the Flour Market, though they have
at the LIMO time occasioned a rather larger amount
of business to be done. The entire sales of the
week embrace 12,00 bbl,. at 4,25(34,40 for Ohio,
