ers are there Ik aow quite a brisk steamboat
business transacted on the Allegheny river. The
Allegheny Jfcttfiwhich U advertised intoJay’apaper,
is ao excellent little craft—t*wift, safe and comforts*
ble. Her commander, Capt. Wm. Hanna, is a gen
tleman altogether worthy -of the confidence end sup
port of buainesa raeh and travelers. We copy, with
pleasure, the following article from the Advocate and
Journal of tho 20th, lust published at Franklin:

set down to mention a faet that perhaps should not
be noted in a public prints It : Baa nov been many
years since steamboats began to ply on tho Allegheny.
The citizens of this place will recollect the first
steamer that reached the town of Franklin, “the bead
of navigation” alter a tedious trip of some seven
days and many perils; bntsinee those days, there
has been rautoh improvement in theaize, comfort and
speed of the boau on this river. We havemany good
boats at present engaged in the great and increasing,
commarce of the Allegheny valley. Even now,
however, it is considered “ good time 4 * to reach
Franklin from Piltoburgh In 36 or 43 hours, id fact
such is considered fair running, while
they are from 6Q to 60 hours between the same
points. A few days since 1 had the j>|ea»ure of a
ride from Pittsburgh toiFronklin in theateamer “Al
legheny Belle.” We started from Pittsburgh on
Monday evening the llth init* at 15 minutes past
seven o’clock, and reached Franklin the next even*
ing at 20 minutes to seven making the whole time
obt, aboot 231 hours, but if you deduct four hours

from port to port, and that too, against a river toll
to-its banks, and running a. perfect an
one as no river but the Allegheny knows how to
run. The “Allegheny Belle” is commanded by
Captain Wra. Hanna, a kind and obliging officer,
aod indeed her.whole crew seemed to understand
their business, to know their places, and do sit in
their power to make the passenger* comfortable.
