an article tfnder this head, in which itasser* that
money is getting easier, and the doll state of he ex
change market .has disipatcd the cxpectatii n that

From a count at the Banks, it appears they have $O,
000,000 of specie, and the Sub-Treasury has-.about
s2,ooo,ooo.Stocks have been active, and the stand
ards maintain an upward tendency." . Treasury notes
sell freely*, A short .time ago, they:were lower than
they ought tojiave been, comparedto stock; the
cause may have been the re-leaao ofthc $8,000,000.
Some parties took advantage it to buy them instead
of -stock, and sent a.considerable amount of them
to Washington to be funded. So great was the pres
sure at the treasury Department, that in some in*
stances a delay of several days was experienced be*
fore a transfer could be completed, andstock deliv

ing going on, as there arc parties who have sold
abesd,and are in danger of being short:

that the real difference* between treasury notes and
United States 6 per cent stock is always small, and •
