In the sitting or the French National Assembly
of the 23d 3tay, the Monte' of Foreign
Atfairs sta
ted that the American Minister had just presented
to the Ezecutire Committee a resolution from the
_Congress of the V. States to recognise the French
Republic, and to conerntulate it on its existence.
-Up to the present time, the executive power bad al
ways acted of itself in such circumstances; but on
this nccasion, it was the whole Congress of the Uni
ted States which had directly *addressed the repre
sentatives of the French Republic. Such being the
case it would be ad vis-ble, tie thought, to respond
to suCh'n proceeding by bne ofa similar nature; and,
in consequence, he had to propose, in tho name of
She executive committee, that the Assembly should
nominate a committee to' draw up an address to the
American Congress, which should be forwarded
with no little delay as possible.--(Crica of "yes!
yes! , ')
The proposition was referred to the Standing
Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The resolution from the U. f.. Government, was
accompanied by the expression• of the President's
hope that France would he able to estntdish orJer,
and to avoid foreign war.. M. do Lame:tine, when
it was first communicated to die Prot isi oaal Govern
ment, returned the renewing reply:
" The resolution which you present to us on the
part of the Senate, the leentative body, and the
President of the AnterieanAcpublisi is 4 happy con
firmation of the recognition of the French Republic
you were the f i rst to proclaim. The new govern
ment of the republic would view with Iliad suscep
tibility, foreign governments mixing up counsel with
the expression of their good wishes; but in the in
timate re!atons which existbetween the Feench
public and that of America, every word which the
latter may address to us will be received,on thescore
of perpetual friendship. The Senate, the legislative
body, and the executive power of the United States
may be convinced that their wise counsels serve in,
advance •as a law to the French republik; not only
will it follow la their path, but it will follow the ex
amples which they give of the order of regular in
stitutions, of attention to its nejetbors, of solicitude
for labor, instruction, and thkprosperiti of the peo
ple. The names of Washington, Jefferson, and
Jackson, are inscribed on the banner of new repub
lic; and if France is fortunate enough to find in its
future annals' worthy of these, liberty will assume
its real character on the old continent ' s, it has done
on the other side of the Atlantic:P.

formed in this city in connexion with these gentle
men to give greater capital and efficiency to this en

and more abundant becomes the ore. There aro
several Cornwall minors employed in theexcavation,

Pocbles—J. M. Davis, Dr. Wilson
Norr-REsereanco.—Burleigh . odd Wright, both
princes. of .." Impracticable's? -have. been holding
forth in Temperance Bilk for seve6leveninge. We
have already noticed; the first. dav'A performanc e .
The audiences continue their's, :and are made up
mostly of the more intelligent colored•population.
They.have not been permitted to have the field to
themselves entlrel.y. They invite and provoke dis
matte% and hero as in other places, they Volvo been
met. ha their fierce denunciations of all political .
and religious institutions they have been answered,
and we think satisfactorily to the liberal peril° of
the audience.
In all charity we regard these two lecture as
being afflicted with some sort ofinsanity. We know
that it is common to denounce men as insane who
give out new thoughts. But these gentlemen have
no new thoughts. Ages ago were men professing
thiamine dogmas and who made the same sacrifice,
that Messrs, Burleigh and Wright do 7 4f in fact they
do make any sacrifices. The anti-slavery impulse
prompted men to action centuries ago. Non-risis
tance is as old an history itself. Infidelity flourished
in the nges of the past. Then wherein do these
men propogate now thoughts}
In truth the only thing which savors of newness
la the whole "agitation," is the means they pro
pose to gain their ends, viz :—thoWing aside all
power to do anything and becoming conservative.
We halfsuspect that if audiences did not give ap
plause; if friend' were not flatterers; if some folks
wera•not disposed to compliment public men upon
their intcllectual•powers, Means and W. would
find some other scheme fur earning their livelihood.
Any one may see that they arc both fond of notori
ety, full of ambition.
We wish them no harm; we know they can do
no injury to man or institution, and would not charge
them with meaning to do badly .; at the same time
we arc conscious that they are both spending their
lives to no good purpose.

Mr. BAIIPEII I hare 'just learned that there is
great demand at this time for the Dratocareric Cen
tral Taylor Committee, that was published in the
“Harrishurgh Argus," for a few weeks last winter.
My name, as well as those of the committee gener
ally, was used without the knowledge' or consent of
their owners; and as I called on the' editor at Har
risburgh the latter part of January last, in company
with Judge Ellis Lewis, Oliver Watson, Req., and
Robert J. Fisher, Esq., and demanded that our
names be stricken out, or omitted, wheMhe suppres
sed entirely the further publication of the commit
tee. The aocument has become scarce, and is near
ly out of print; you will, therefore, greatly oblige
me by republishing it. I will only add, that it was
formed at a Democratic meeting, at which I was not
present, at a time when Gen. Taylor was believed to
be a Democrat.
Every name upon it is the name of a Democrat,
some of them, men of great eminence. next to
my name . will be found the name of Col. Israel
eainter, the Democratic nominee for Canal Com
mission.% than whom a purer Democrat or worth
ier man does not live.
I don't believe.. there is the name of a single per
son on that committee who will not be found bat
tling manfully and efficiently in the opening cam
paign for Cass & Boman. PleaSe keep this com.
mittee standing until after the County nominations
are made, that persons who desire it, may supply
themselves with copies, and charge the printing to
my account. Yours, &c. •
