Weekly Review-of the Markets.
OFFICE OF mit POST.
FIRM% MormNo. April 7. Ih4Q. S
17te indications in business circles, tinting the week,
twee been fstrogable; if we except the little convulsion■
and tightness in the money market. The Wholesale
Grocers and• Produce dealers have been doing well;
thaylare :satisfied. Some of the manufacturers growl.
while..others are much elated. We notice, however,
that those who speak discouragingly, are partizans;
men who long since predicted ruin to the manufacturers,
and distress generally to the Country; and they are not
unwitting tomake seine sacrifice, in forcing a verifica-
Lion of their predictions. It is well known too; that a
'Presidential election is approaching. 'This will explain
the cause of the, rumers of panic. But, notwithstanding
all that may be said, the important truth sticks out, all
around, that the business prospects in this city were never
better. We hear iron, thantithctnrers .say. that they can
hardly meet the deratid., The .Cotton Mills are running
full time, and make setae' of all *instant'''. Lumber mer
oblate are encouraged tithe rinispeet of a great increase
in the improvements of the city. Leather dealers are
busy, and express themselves satisfied. We understand
_that the ordete for some kinds of Glass can not be filled.
And so we might . go on particularizing; but it is not ye
, cram**, as any one; witli eyes, - may see, that with a little
relief in.the mimey market, all will be well.
The valuable Produce of Ohio, will soon begin to crowd
into the city; and the store► of-thloga throughout, the
country, *ill be in market soon ;' next week, perhaps, for
thiaroads will be in good eider.

\ Last evening, there were eight feet WM!r in the channel.
The steamers are all afloat; and go out with full loads,
and come in down to the guard.. Each cabin is crowd
ed with passedgers.
Our Hotels are filled with strangers; most of whom
are in the city on business. We notice daily arrivals of
new faces.
Money The pressure fot money eontinnes peeny
tight; hut. it is thought, as thelu•iness season advances,
that thing. will become much easier. For the last few
'days, there has been much ogilation in the eommnnity,—
occasioned:by the failures of the Wooster Bank, in Ohio,
and the Mineral Bank, iu Maitland; both concerns un
der the control of the notorious Lake. The brokers are
buyingthe paper of these Banks for 50 cents on the dol
lar. There has been a rumor; itiollt that Lake is con
cerned in the Norwalk Bank, and its paper is deprecia
ted 25 per cent. in consequence. ; This rumor needs con.
firmation, bin Whits had its el4et on the credit of the
notes. We regret to state that the. firm of - WAVILICIL,
Mairrtn, A. Co.. Exchange Ilr4ers and Batiken, has
I
been obliged to suspend in consequence of Lake k. Co's
' failure. Messrs. Martin and Kahl have had the confi
dence of our citizens, and are eattemed honorable men'
but they had the misfortune to , gel into bad company.
VI our—During the week the floor market has been
vascillitting. Now the decline it real; and sales are
made from store and first bands I figures much below
our quotations of last week. Therceipts have not been
very heavy. Speculation has talks off. There is none
of any account bought for shipmed. The news front the
East has not been favorable. %tat the future state of
the market may be, no one seems ii. have any idea. On
account of bed roads (waive nay in many directions
than they have been at any time during the season) but
few lots have came in. It is said at there is much in
the country arotnid the city, ready wagons, which will
be rushed in as soon as possible. lids these lots will have
no important effect upon the market We are told that
here is still muzh to arrive by rivet A farther decline
may be looked for, should the news :km abroad continue
unfavorable.
The sales yesterday were at the rtes of the day previ-
ous, the report of which we re-publhh below. Sales at
wharf of about 160 bbls. at $4,40! 351M15. at 6t,37; from

day; but the prices we quote below are correct:
Braves—Sales of 70 head at 2483 c. 4 7 ' lb, on hoof; It&
head at 5e., net,
Hoof--Sale of 59 Clogs at :MU.
Surat—About 200 otfereil, but the ,holders were khave
the market ; and no sales were made ; $1,5041 , 1,75 was the
asking price.
Bacon—lt is impossible to calculate fite.amount of
Bacon that has arrived in our city during the senstm—and
there is no end yet. Every steamer is loaded with llaccrn
--every merchant and transportation comPany, receives
consignments of Bacon. The shipments east have been
heavy ; and large lots are daily packed into canal boats.
The markets will certainly be glutted; and though prices'
are now low, a still further decline, it seems to us, must
be the result. We will not give the details of transac
tions that have been reported to us; but set down the ru
ling rates. For large lots, we quote at a, 3014 f ; small
er lots about te. higher. pur friends may depend upon
this, for we give the figures from actual sales.
Bulk Pork—Thousands of pieces-arrive
from the Ohio, Upper Mississippi, and Illinois rivers.
There is no demand; the article is very dull; the mar
ket is glutted. We have not heard of mete than one or
two sates. We quote at 3e., hog round.
Sugar—We can only report regular sales to the
town and country trade at lett week's prices. The stock
on hand la heavy. Many anticipate a decline; but we
believe they will be disappointed. .The sales now are at
the lowest possible rates :510'4e. in hhds. Some heavy
lots have been taken at these rates, during the week.
Mole —Nomilbst.ildior the rumors started, and
efforts made, to put prices of Mol down, we notice
sales in all sorts col - quantities at 271 at which; hold
ers are very firm. Many say they would not di.pose of
their whole stock at these rates. Some lots have been
bought by accident, for less; Lut such sales do not
rule die market.
Cokre—The market is well supplied with an excellent
article of Rio; and there has Leen a slight decline, with a
still downward tendency. Sales are made daily at tinti
