OFFICE OF THE POST,
WEDNESDAY Monluxo. March 15, 164 i.
The weather yesterday was quite cold, and checked bu
siness to a considerable extent. On the wharf there was
unusual activity; but nut in sales.
Flour.—%Ve heard of nu hales yesterday, either at
wharf or from wagon. There is very little offering in the
market at present. Considerable has arrived tbr ship
ment east. The canal Warehouses are well filled. There
were sales from store yesterday at 64,50, by dray loud;
by single bbl. $4,75. Au inferior quality sold at tr 1,37 by
dray load.
lart gear—Notwithstanding all thst is said, we arc an-
Ming to quote Nev Orleans Sugar al less than 5; an
hints. Some sales have been made at a fraction less, but
all w•e heard of were under circumstances winch render
ed them unfair quotations. We do not pretend to say
what the future state of the market may be: but ems do
say that the price. given above, is the one indieating, the
present feeling, in the market. We have seen sales. I'mui
one hhd. to fifty, at 4.
Molasser—We hear of sales made replarlr at 2 4 0
29 for prime New Orleans—the latter figure's''' . course for
single barrels to country. We understand that one or two
houses in the city offer prime N. 0. Molasses nt LI - , in
Cypress barrels, which we ore told is about equal to 29c .
in Pittsburgh Oak barrels.
—Some predict that both Sugar and Molasses will fall,
and it is Deserted that they are now giving way. The
prices in New Orleans, and the freights are gii ing w ny,
but what effect this may have upon our market we do not
know, inasmuch as the entire stocks of Loth These articles
have been received at rates which will not permit u fur
ther decline without loss. In fact, some are now
selling below cost; for instance. we were told of two
nierehanth whose storks of Molasses stand them ;Me.
