PIT . TSBURGH BOARD OF TWA
COMMITTER FOR MANUMIT,
N. B. Craig, W. H. Denny, Charles Zug.
PITTSBURGH MARKETS-DAILY REVIEW.
• OFFICE OF THE POST,
Tntrusne,TMonntso, Jan. 20, 1848 S
Yesterday was a beautiful day; and business
men seemed very active
FLOUR—The receipts were rather heavy; but
sales were not very brisk From wagon some
lots were taken at $4,8704,90; at river the same
quotations are fair. We beanl of one lot extra
prime which sold at $5, to a retail dealer. In
fact, the heavy Flour merchants do not seem to
take much; the sales being principally to the
smaller dealers. Some was stored away for a rise.
We think, judging from the information we
gathered from merchants, that there will be but
very little variation in the price of Flour during
the winter—until the opening of canal navigation
in the spring. The news from abroad has no ef
fect upon the market here; and there is no specu
lative demand at present. -The present quotations
will be fully maintained.
DRIED FRUlT.—There is considerable activi
ty in Dried Fruits just now, owing to the large
lots coming in. We notice that hardly a steamer
arrives that is not laden with sacks of Apples or
Peaches, consigned to our city merchants. There
appears to be a pretty good demand ; and quick
salet• Dried Peaches sold yesterday from store at
$1,0201,68; Dried ✓lpples at 60068 c.
GREEN APPLES —The price seems a little
}bow the market of last week; sales at wharf oil
good i varieties at $1,501i42,00 4 bbl.; the demand
appeared goed, and poorer sorts are not so plenty.
GRAIN.—We have n 6 change to notice to-day.

MOLASSES—SaIes at 266127 c.; single bbl. to

CHEESE.—Receipts large and sales at old
quotations, viz: Western Reserve 6(id6}e.
BROOMB—Receipta fair yesterday, but prices
take such a wide range that it is'useless to report.
One lot of good quality, fancy handles, were held
at $1,75.
BUTTER—StiII coming in, and quick sales from
store at .1.2a13c. for Prime. Keg is worth 10c.
LINSEED 01L—Rekular sales at 56c
LARD OlL—Regular sales at 65c
POTATOES—A few sacks of Pink-eyes arrived,
which were refused at sl.su. There is a good
demand for Potatoes, and an excellent quality
would demand a high price. The market is poorly
supplied, and the lots for sale are of miserable
quality.

the market a trifle.
TIMOTHY SEED—A sale from store at $2,2.5.
LARD—Regular sales No 1 Lard at ear,i.
BULK PORK—Large receipts for smoke house,
but no sales to indicate a price.
ANOTHER STEAMBOAT DISASTER—TRE
MENDOUS EXPLOSION.
By the officers of the steamer Declaration, we learn
that the steamer.Seu Bird, lying at Cape Girar lean,
lower landing, caught fire about one o clock on
Thursday the 6th inst. and was entirely destroyed,
by the explosion of twelve hundred kegs of powder
• in the hold. The report was terrific, and the con
cussion so great as to cause extensive damage to
dthe buildings in the town. The College was seri
ously damaged, by the destruction of windows,
ceiling, and portico, to the amount of several hun
dyed dollars. A part of the boiler was blown a.
cross the river, and the anchor entirely I over and
beyond the College. The Sea Bird was bound from
New Orleans to this port, and so heavily laden as
to be unable to came over the bars between here
and the Cape. Sheba(' dropped down to the lower
end of the town, where she had been lying for two
4 30 r three days.
~, We are happy to state that no person was inju•
red. As soon as the fire was discovered, the alarm
was :given that there vt as powder on board, and
every inhabitant, old and young, fled from the
town and escaped injury. The jar was dish:icily
felt at Cairo. We did not learn how the fire orig
inated, or any thing relative:to insurarce ut boat or
cargo.—St Louis Union.

SCRATCH, SCRATCH.
TETTER, ITCH, SALT RHEUM, &c.--Who
would for a single day scratch, when afflicted
with the Totter, Itch, or other discuses of the skin,
if they knew who would relieve and cure them.
'Tis horrible to be obliged to rub and scratch
when alone, but more horrible to abstain from it,
[for decency sake,) when in company. Let it be
remembered that DR. LEIDY'S TETTER ¢ ITCH
IINTMENT is the most efficacious of any other
preparation in existence in curing the Tenor, Itch,
and other diseases of the skin. As all diseases of
the skin must arise from the impurity of the blood
and the fluids of the body, and where such diseases
be of long standing, and the constitution affected
thereby, if Dr. Leidy's Sarsaparilla Blood Pills be
used with the Ointment, they will cure any case
whatever, and if they do not, the money will be re
turned by Dr. Leidy. Most cases, however, will be
effectually cured by Dr. Leidy's Tetter and Itch
Ointment, unless the whole system is impregnated
by the diseased humors, which will be completely
carried off from the system by Dr. Leidy's Blood
Pills, and the surface of the skin healed by the
lint/nem. Price of Ointment 2.5 cents. For sale

directions. u •
No outward application can permanently remove
rheumaticpains from the system. Liniments some
times act as a palliative for a short period,- but
there is always danger-in their use; they may cause
the pain to leave one place for perhaps a vital part,
or else where the pain will be more acute.
GERMAN. BITTERS, •
For the permanent cure of Liver Complaints,
Jaundice, Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Chronic Debility,
Chronic Asthma, Nervous Dohility, PulmonaryAf
feetions, (arising from the liver or(storhach) diseases
of the Kidneys, and all diseases arising front a die
ordered stomach, in both male and female, such as
female weakness, dizziness, fullness of blood to the
head. They strengthen the system, and remove all
ascidity of thestemach, and give It tone and action,
and assist digestion; they can be taken by the moat
delicate stomach; and in every case will entirely
destroy costiveness, and renovate the whole system,
removing all impurities and remnants of previous
disease', and give a healthy action to the whole
frame.
The symptoms of Liver Complaint are uneasiness
and pain in the right side, and soreness upon touch
immediately under the inferior ribs; inability to lie
on the left side, or if at all able, a dragging sensa
tion produced, which seriously affects respiration,
causing very often a troublesome cough; together
with these symptoms we perceive a coated tongue',
acidity of the stomach, deficiency of perspiration,
and sometimes a sympathetic pain in the right shoul
der, with a great disposition to sleep and depres
sion of spirits, and sometimes sores . in the mouth
or throat, causing mucus to-rise in the- nostrils;
jaundice frequently accompanies it, and a Dropsy
in the face. These symptoms, if permitted to con
tinue, will eventually produce that most baneful
disease, Consumption; in fact a majority ofsuch cas
es originate from the irritating cause above men
tioned. Cathartic medicineamust in every instance,
ba avoided in the treatment for it.
The symptoms of Dyspepsia are very various--
those affecting the stomach alone, are nausea, heart
burn, loss of appetite, sometTines an excess of ap
petite,- sense of fulness or weight on the stomach,
sinking or fluttering of the pit:of the stomach; feted
eructations, or sour arising from the stomach, &c.
The sympathetic, affections are very diversified.—
Dyspepsia, devoid of a Punctual nature is without
danger, butif arising from a disease ofthe stomach,
it is dangerous.
Nervous Debility generally accompanies dispep
ilia or liver complaint; it will also cure. A few do
ses will remova all the unpleasant effects, such as
fluttering at the heart, aching sensation when in a
lying position, dots or webs before the sight, fever
and dull pain in the head, constant imagin•ng of
evil; and great depression of spirits. Outward signs
are quick and strong pulse, pale and distressed coun
tenance, &c.
Any case of the above disease can he cured eirec
ually by the use of the Bitters as directed.
' SUDORIFIC,
An infallible remedy fur coughs or colds, or the
chest, spitting of hlood, influenza, whooping cough,
bronchitis, hemoral asthma, or any disease of the
lungs or throat.
This is an invaluable family Medicine. It soon
relcaves any cough or hoarseness, and prevents the
croup by being early administered. No cough or
cold is too light to pass neglected ; neglected colds
send thousands to the grave annually, and cause
many to grow up with a delicate frame, who would
have been strong and robust if at first, properly
treated.
SPIKENARD OINTMENT,
For the effectual cure of the piles, tetter, and
rheum, scald head, ringworms, inflamed eyes or eye
lids, barber's itch, frosted feet., old eoresarising f•mn
fever or impure blood; and will extract the fire from
burns, upon application, or remove any cutaneous
eruptions from the skin. Persons troubled with ten
der faces should use it after shaving; it will in a few
moments remove all soreness, and stop the bleeding.
It can always be relied upon, and is invaluable in
any family.
TAR OINTMENT.
For the cure of pains or weakness in the liver,
back or chest; it will entirely remove any deep
seared pains. These remedies have caused many
to enjoy the inestimable blessings of invigorated
health, and in a variety of desperate and abandoned
cases, a perfect and radical cure.
- .
The innumerable impositions upon the public, ‘ and
statements of remarkable cures never made, yet cer
tified to by feigned names, or by persons wholly un
acquainted with what they have endorsed, renders
it difficult to do justice to the public in offering suf
ficient inducements to make a trial of these invalua
ble medicines. They are entirely vegetable, and
free from ail injurious ingredients, and claim your
patronage solely upon their merits. Every family
should have a pamphlet ; they can be had of theagent
