In all that relate.; to the ordinary affairs of the
State, this message is one of the most plain, com
prehensive, and..business like documents that has
emanated from the Executive Departeect of any
State in the I;Tniot, for a long time past; and
when we examine it, with reference to some of its
recommendations a II suggestions, we , think it
can with eafety":be aid, that the Executive of no
State has adopted ore bnlightened Niews, or
taken a higher giround of State pulley. Topics of
general legislatian, have been only incidentally
referred to; and , evenl then in a very brief manner;
while ths'legialaiive i measures, necessary, to be
adopted in our Statel, in furtherance of the great
ends, aimed at hy cir national legislature, are
fully, fearlessly.and ibly discussed.
The subjects 'of a eonstitutional treasury and a

of our importations from abroad,—a powerful

has placed a check up n the movements of merel

OFFICE OF THE POST,
