Commercial, a prominent Federal paper, thus.
speaks of Mr. CLASS last speech :
"It would not-be exactly cnrrect to say that we
are disappointed by the speech itsdr. We did not
- suppose that Mr Clay could have any thing, or at
least much, to say of the Mexican.war which would
startle the public mind by its novelty, .or produce
great effect by the presentation of hitherto unexplor
ed argument. But we can say that, even more than
was anticipated, we are impressed with a sense of the
non necessity for making the speech at all; of its
want of force and effect as a standard under which
any number of the people may rallyas the exponent
of their opinions and feelings; and this mainly, be
cause, to the-vast multitude who bare not made
for the:nselves a clear, determinate and compact
opinion, it presents nothing new, either in propo
sition or argument; while it falls short of extreme
opinion on either side, and cannot satisfy those
%dm believe in the .0. destiny " of conquest on the
one hand, or those who demand an instant and ab
solute withdrawal from Mexico and the war on
the other.' In short, the speech adds nothing of
force or distinctness to the great party issues of
the time, and cannot be adopted, by . friend or
enemy, as the potent rallying cry 'of-a leader."

tellowing certificate from . a respectable Citizen of
the Fifth Ward:
Pirrsounou, Noy. 3,1647
This certifies that for some weeks past I was troub
led with a very serious cough, which was evidently
becoming seated on the lungs to such an ;extent as
to resist the effect of every medicine whkh:l bad
been using. I was finally persuaded to call at Hays
Brockwars Drug Store, and get a bottle of Dr.
Willard , s Oriental Cough Mixture; which, to my
great surprise, volleyed me very much; after taking
only two or three doses, and be ors I had!used one
bottle; I was entirely cured. I was so much pleased
with Its effects that I have brought others to buy it,
and shall continue to recommend it to my friends,
as Ifirm/y believe it lobe the best cough medicine iw
the world!" .
