The trial of James Teaff, of Steubenville, to wliicb allusiun was made in Friday's paper, ter initialed by a verdict of " Not Guilty." The Defendant Was the late President of the For the Defence, it was shown that Little had, for many years, been largely indebted to Teaff, and in consequence of his property being sold under execution in favor of Teaff, he had threatened to send him to the penitentiary. . Hia character for truth and veracity was also attacked by fifteen witnesses; and supported by thirty-five, who represented him to be a man of truth and veracity, except in his business transac tions, and that they would believe him on oath. The case was tried before a Special Jury, who, utter being out about two hours, returned a ver dict of Not Guilty." We un derstand that - it broke out in the stable of Mr.M% Coy; an adjoining stable was burnt—several frame dwellings were entirely consumed. The water was scarce, and the entries could not reach.the spot for some time. Several shanties were torn down, In order to arrest the flames. Two horses and a cow were burned tq death. We believe there was no insurance. A number of poor families los: much of their furniture. One - .woman lost every thing. It may be that the assistance of the public is needed by some of them; and if so it should be called out. In the District Court, yesterday, the case of Teasdale vs. Lee, was up. It may not be ready for the Jury fur several days. But one or two.wiines ses have yet been examined. It is substantially the same case that was before the Quarter Sessions, and withdrawn by Prosecutor. We will give a report of the trial, after the verdict is rendered. c o.
