The heavy; rains during the past week have swelled the rivers as high as the steamboat men desire. Im mense quantities of goods are now being shipped off to the west and south. Indeed, the Monongahela wharf at thii time presents quite an animating spec table—boaM loading and unloading—the draymen all busy at Work--omnibisses and carriages running to and fro—in short, every thing is life and bustle. The oldest merchants in the city inform us that they -neverknew the fall business to set in with more :promise; and when we take into consideration the 'fact that a certain class 'of politicians predicted last year that all interests in the community would suffer 'in consequence of a change in the revenue laws of the country, we can beint to the present prosperity, , which is every where visible, with feelings of thei utmost pleasure. The stockiof Pittsburgh manufactured articles of all kinds were never better or larger than they are at present—in fact, the merchants are compelled to keep:on hand heavy stocks to meet the increased demands upon them. Country merchants who may visit the city willfiti no difficulty in suiting them selves. MONEY Themoney market remains without any change, and there is no pressure or "tightness' , to report. Currency is plenty and is purchased by khe brokers at I per cent discount. The banks, we :believe, discount all the good paper that is offered.' We have heard of no new counterfeits in eircula- 1 lion since our last. The'new counterfeit s's on the •M. & M. Bank have been fully detected, and but few have made their appearance in the west.
