St. Louis, Sept. 7th, IS-IS.
DR. E. EASTERLY Co.—Gents.---I have been
afflicted finr about three years with a pulmonary coin
. plaint, NOIiCII has baffled the skill of several of the
most eminent physicians of our country. At times
my cough was very severe, pain in my side and
breast, and great difficulty in breathing. In this way
I continued to suffer, until life became almost a bur
den. At length I saw your advertisement of DR.
MAYNE'S Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry, and
was persuaded by a friend of mine to make a trial of
it, mot I purchased a bottle of you. I ton happy to I
inform you that one bottle has effected a perfect cure, ;
and that I am now in the enjoyment of good health. I
I make this statement in the form of a certificate,
that others who may he afflicted with such diseases'
may know where to find a valuable medicine. You!
can use this testimony in commendatiinn of Dr.
Swayrie's Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry as you
think best. Yours, with respect,
WM. CARSON. .
ONE WORD OF CAUTION.—SiOCe the introduction'
of my article to the public, there have a number of
;unprincipled individuals got up nostrums, which!
they assert contain Wild Cherry ; some are called
I" Balsams," " Bitters," and even tt Syrup °Mild
Cherry," but mine is the original and only genuine
preparation ever introduced tin the public, which
can he proved by the public records of the Common
wealth of Pennsylvania. The only inafficuard against
imposition is to see that any signature is en each
bottle. Da. It SwAYNE,

50,000 Deaths by Consumption
Irani,/ perhaps be a small estimate for the ravages of
this dreadful disease in a single year; then add the
fearful catalogue of those cut if by Ingruustion of
the Lungs, Hemorrhage, Asthma, Coughs, Influen
za, Bronchitis, and other diseases of the Lungs and
Liver.
And the list would present an appalling proof of
the fatality of these two classes of diseases. But it
is important to know that - nearly all of this dread
Avnste of human life might have been prevented by
a timely use of DR. SWAYNE'S COMPUUND SY-'
RCF'UF WILD CHERR Y.
This medicine has nose been before the public
some eight years, and is the original preparation
from the Wild Cherry Tree. Its reputation as a rem
edy for Coughs, Colds, Bronchins, nail Consumption
or . the Lungs based entirely upon its intrinsic merits,
owes but little to inflated newspaper pull's. Those
who give it a trial being benekted by It, recom
mend it to their neighbors, and thus gradually and
surely has itgained an ens table reputation and worked
its way into general use. One bottle never fails to
cure a recent Cough or Cold, while with strict atten
tions to the directions that accompany each b e id e ,
its use in Pulinitilary diseases or long standing and
the most alarming character, has always git care

A P6SITIVE AND PERMANENT CURE FOR
RHEUMATISM
AND ALL NERVOUS COMPLAINTS.
"What though the causes may not be explained,
Since their effects are duly ascertained,
Let not delusion, prejudice, or pride,
Induce mankind to set the means aside;
Means which tho' simple, are by !leaven dcsign'd
To alleviate the ills of human kind."'
DR. CHRISTIE'S GALVANIC RINGS AND MAG-
r HIS remarkable invention, which has received
the universal approbation of the medical profes
sion of Great Britain, comprises an entirely new ap
plication olGalvanism, as a remedial agent, by means
of which the ordinary Galvanic Batteries, Electric
and Magnetic Machines, Ste., are entirely dispensed
with, and the mysterious power of Galvanism applied
without any of the objections which are inseparable
from the general mode now in use. The strong dos
es, and irregular intervals, in which Galvanism is ap
plied by the Machines, has been pronounced, after a
fair and impartial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and
it was to remedy this radical defect that this new ap
plication was projected, which, after unceasing toil,
and perseverance, has been brought to its present
state of perfection. The Galvanic Rings answer all
the purposes of the most expensive Machines, and
in many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, arc confidently recommended in all
disorders which arisefrom an enfeebled and unhealthy
I state of the nervous or vital system, and these com-
I plaints aro among the most painful and universal to .
which we are subject. They arise, without exception,
from one simple cause--a derangement of the Nerv
ous System—and it was in these cases that other
'remedies' having so often failed, a new agent was
greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, has
been found in the proper and judicious application
of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rinks have been used with entire
success in all cases of RHEUMATISM, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, thee or limbs, Gout, Tic-Dolo
reuz, iaollatche, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nerrous Sick
Headache, Indigestion, Paralysis, Palsy, Epilepsy,
Fits, Cramp, Palpitations of the Heart, Apoplexy,
Stiffness o f Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lumbago,
Neuralgia, Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the Head,
pain in the Chest and Side, General Debility, Deficien
cy of Nervous and Physical Energy, and all NERV
OUS DISORDERS. In cases ofconfirmed Dyspepsia,
which is simply a nervous derangement of the diges
tive organs, they have been found equally successful.
Their extraordinary effects upon the system must be
witnessed to be believed, and as a certain preventive
rot the preceinng complaints they are equally recom
mended. The Rings are of different prices, being
made ofall sizes, and of variout ornamental patterns,
and can be worn by the most delicate female without
the slightest Mconveniencer In fact, the sensation
is rather agreeable than otherwise.
Tho Galvanic Bells, Bracelets, Blinds,
Garters, Necklaces, &c.
•
In some cases of a very severe character, and of
long standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic
flings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of disease
and ultimately restore health. The improved modi
fication in the Gal vanic Belts, Bracelets, entire
ly remedies this objection; any degree of power that
is required can readily be obtained, and no complaint
which the mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect
will fail to be permanently relieved. These articles
are adapted to the waists, arms, wrists, limbs, alleles,
or any 'part of the body, with perfect convenience.
The Galvanic Necklaces are used with greater bene
fit in cases of Bronchitis or aflections of the throat
generally; also in cases of Nervous Dealliess; and
with almost coition! success as a preventive Mr Apo
plexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar complaints. •
is; used in connection with the Galvanic flings and
all their modifications. This composition has been
' pronounced by the French Chemists-to ne one of the
I most extraordinary disciiveries ofmndern science. It
is believed to possess the remarkable power of ren
dering the nerves renBilive to galvanic action by this
means; causing a concentration of the influence, at the
seat of disease, titueegivlug rapid anal permanent re
lief. No other composition in chemistry is known

local application. The Magnetic Fluid contains noth
-ling capable of the slightest injury; its application is
agreeable, and it is as harmless in its action as it is
beneficial m its results. Full explanations and direc
t toins accompany it. The combined inventions are in
every way perfi-ctly harmless; they are sold at prices
within the reach of all and the discoverer only re
; quests a fair trial as a tent adieu. surprising efficacy
and permanent benefit.
These articles tonn another valuable application
of the mysterious influence ofGalvanism• They are
an important adjunct to.the genuine Galvanic Rings
and their modifications, acting upon the same pririth-:
pie, but having the advantage or more local applica- '
hon. They are confidently recommended as a vale
all r addition in the speedy' cure o fltheumatism ,ac ate
or chronic; in all venous complaints, and as a posi
use remedy an cases of Pain and Weakness in the
Chest or Bark, Pain Si; the Side, in Asnuair Affections,
and in fireokness 'Oppression of the Pulmonary Or
gans. In Spinal CUmplaints their effects are of tRe
most decided character, and they base often been
used with complete success. They' are also of the
greatest adsantago in Pains and Weakness of the
Ilreast,a nd are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially l table. As
an effectual menus for st re ngabeintig the. ystem when
debilitated with disease or other Ca erlen; as a certain
aid in Constitutional Weakness, ns a Preventive 4t
Colds, and in all . affections of the Chest, generall,
the Galvanic Strengthening Plaster will be found 'tit
great and permanent advantage. Ina few words; it
embraces all the virtues of tht• best tonic preparation,
with the important addition the galvanic influence,
which as neither impaired nor exhausted, whale the
action continues. These articles will be found entire
ly free from those objections which are a constant
source of comply mt with the ordinary plasters in

acquired no small celebrity over the country, by the
cures it has made in this distressing class of afflic
tions. So famed, it seems, is this medicine, that it
has thus attracted the notice of one of our-Medical
publications. In the November No. 1846, of the
"Buffalo Journal and Monthly Review of Medical
-and Surgical Science," in an article upon calculous
diseases, and "solvents," the writer, after noticing
I the fact that the English government once purchased
a secret remedy, and also noticing the purchase in
11802, of a secret remedy, by the Legislature of New
York, thus pays tribute to the fame of the Medicine:
"Why do not our Representatives in Senate and

of auglin , s Vegetable Lithontriptic, than which no

This is to certify, that we have used the AMERI
CAN OIL for the whooping cough among our children,
by giving them film 20 drops to a small tea spoon
Mil at night, whielt always enabled them to rest well'
through the night; I also applied it to one of the
children that got her arm burnt, the chilli ceased'.
crying by the time the arm was dressed and bound
up. 1 also was afflicted with a pain in my side and
breast, and have liven so for 10 years. I commenced
using the Oil by taking a teaspoonful twice a day,
and in 2 or 3 days using the Oil have been very much
relieved, and do believe that it is the best. Family
medicine 1 have ever seen—one of my neighbors
used it at my request for a sprained allele, which re
lieved her in a few minutes; we have also used the
Oil for a strained joint in our own family, which gave
ease in a very sjiort time. We live on the east side
of Penn st., 3 doors south of Walnut. lam now as
well us ever I was in my life.

FOR THE . .CURE. OF CHRONIC'-DISEASES
lIIAZONPS SICILIAN 5Y1261 3 OR TROPICAL
Discovered by Dr. Mazoni of Oily in the year - 1845,
and introduced into thel.T._States early in 1846.
1118' unrivalled medicine for the radical cure of
T
Chtonic diseases has spread'th.oughout Europe
with the most unequalled speedand triumphant suc
cess, effecting the most astonishing cures ever known
or recorded in the annals of Medical Biatory. Since
its introduction into.the United States it-has equally -
sustained the high reputation it so justly received in
the East, curing here as it hasdone there, the most.
inveterate and long standing diseasei with which the ?
human family are afflicted. The Physicians of Eu. ;
rope and America (as far as they have beMarite ac
quainted with its mode of 'operation) together with.;,;.
the thousands who have been restored to -health by ,
its superior efficacy with one united voice proclaim
it to be the most perfect remedial agent ever offered .
to suffering humanity. It is new - an established:fact
"that Consumption may be, tan bp, andhas been cured
by 1)r. Illazoni>s Sicilian Syrup or Tropical Hygiene. -
This is the Only mediciap that has ever been dis.
covered that has achieved a cure where this disease
had gained a settled and permanent hold upon the
1 -system. For the truth of this assertion, we have
the certificates of some of the molt eminent Physi
cians of Europe and America,,expressly declaring
that they have prescribed it in hundreds of instances
where the patients were considered beyond all hope
of recovery, and, to their astonishment, has effected
the most speedy and Perfeet cues. No one who is
unacquainted with its action c•ln imagine the-won
derful success that attends the administration of this,
medicine in every variety of chronic disease, par
ticularly Consumption, Scrofula or kings'evil,
ma, Phthisic, Piles, (see cases reported in pamphlets
and circulars) Cancers, Liver. Complaints, Costive-,
ness and Indigestion, Sore and Inflamed Throat,
Bronchitis, Dropsies; Chronic Intlamation of the
Kidneys, Gravel, Great .Debility and Iratibility
the nervous system, Spinal affections, Paralysis,
Chronic Diarrahma, Pain 'in the breast and
,Side, -.-
Coughs, Colds, Chronic Rheumatism, Diseases of the
Stomach and Bowels, inward weakness and Tallink
down of the womb, and alt the chronic diseases pe
culiar, to females in their various relations in life.
This medicine is prepared only by Dr. Mazoni him
self, and is composed entirely, of vegetable material.
=1
containing the extract of 42 of the moat rare Tropi
cal plants but few of which are known to the medi
cal Profession generally.
It has so far surpassed every other medicine eve.,
offered to the world in eradicating disease, that it
has not only enlisted, many orthe most talented
medical men in the world in its' favor but what is
more extraordinary the government where it 'was
discovered "lies made it an offence punishable with;
death to attempt countofeiting it or making' sale, op
any spurious article purporting to be the same or.
representing it to bey genuine. And this Govern:
ment has also made a liberal provision for the-pro
tection of it here. To the afflicted we say let none
dispair, though you may have been given tip by
your Physician and considered .by ivnur friendi as
beyond all hope, try a bottle of this medicine and
you may rely upon the fact, that if you have Opel
.
cal strength enough.. left to endure its action; you
will find certain and speedy relief, for this has keen
the case in thousands of-instances, in proof of which
.we can produce certificates from individuals of the
most respectable character both of -Europe and
America. This . medicine will be
. ofTered for .Sale,
only at the county seats of each county; owing tc
the small amount yet imported and the aniiety of
the proprietor to place this valuable. remedy within
the 'reach of all throughout the Gaited States.

LANDRETH'S NURSERIES AND GARDENS
"These extensive grounds are on Federal street,

"The. Nurseries are very.correctly managed, sup
plying every part of the Union, a detail of which
would occupy too much of our space, we therelbre
content ourselves with stating that the stock is very.
large, and in every stage of growth, consisting of.
FOREST AND ORNAMENTAL TREES; 'EVER—
GREENS, SHRUDS, VINES AND CREEPERS, with
a collection of herbacceous plants, fruit trees .of. the
best kind and most healthy condition, large hefts pt
seeding apples, pears, plums, &c., as stock's for bud
ding and grafting; a plan very superior to that's:
working upon suckers, which carry with them into
the graft all the diseases of the parent stock. • ".
"GARDEN SEEDS of the finest quality have been
scattered over the country from these grounds, and:
may always be depended upon. The seed establish
ment of these Horticulturists is one of the most
ten si ve in the Union, and its reputation is well sustain:
ed from yearto year.
‘ , T4 obviate the chance.of mixture of the farina. of_
the plants of the same fluidly, they have established-
another nursery at a suitable distance; so that degene : ; , .
ration cannot take place, and which secures to. the
purchaser a 'genuine article.' Knowing thua the
age, quality and process of culture of every plant;
the supply from their grounds is xecommendecnwith
great confidence."
• Since the date of the 'Report , from which. the
above is extracted, the entire establishment has been
greatly enlarged. The collection of Camellias em
braces all the finer kinds, and consists of some thou
sands of various sizes; so likewise with Roaes, end
other desirable plants, both tender and hardy; fruit.
trees, &c.
The Seed Gardens alone cover fatly acres . ; anidthe
whole is, as it has been fur more than half a century,
under the successive management of,lather and son,
the most prominent in America.
