Dr. Jayne—Dear Sir :—You ask me what proofs I
meet with of the efficacy of your Carminitire.
can safely say that I never prescribed a medicine
for Towel Complaints that has given so much satis
faction, and my patients sei spec ly and perfect re
!leas this. - Whenever introduced into a family, it
Lecontea a standing remedy for those ailments, and
is called for again and again, which I think a pretty
good proof of its efficacy and usefulness. In the
Suinmer Complaint of children it has frequently ap
peared to snatch the little victims, as it were, from
the grave. ' , lt saved the life of my child, and of
such and such a child : " I have repeatedly heard said.
In dysentrie affections of adults,' have time and again
seen it act like a charm, and give permanent relief
in a few hours, I may say in a few minutes. In fine
it is a valuable medicine, and no family should be
without it. Respectfully.

two seasons, the attack has been obviated in the

diseases is
DR. SIV.SYNE'S
COMPOUND SYRUP OF WILD CHERRY.
Read the Testimony. -
St. Louis, Sept. 7th, 1546.
Da. E. EASTERLY & hare been
afflicted for about three years with a pulmonary com
plaint, which has baffled the skill of several .of the
most eminent physicians of our country. At times
my cough ,was very severe, pain in my side and
breast, and great difficulty in breathing. In this way
I continued to suffer, untillife became almost a bur
den. At length I saw your adverkieement of DR.
SWAYNE'S Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry, and
was persuaded by a friend amine to make a trial of
it, and I purchased'a bottle of you. I am happy to
inform you that one bottle has effected a perfect cure,
and that I am now in the enjoyment of good health.
I make this statement in the form of a certificate,
that others who may ho afflicted with such diseases
may know where trifind a valuable medicine. You
can use this testimony in commendation of Di.
Swayne's Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry as you
think best. Yours, with respect,
CALtSotr.
Otc'E WORD or CARrtort.—Since the introduction
of my article to the public, there have a number of
unprincipled individuals get up nostrurns,'which
they assert contain Wild Cherry; some, are called
" Balsams," " Bitters," and even " Syrup of Wild
Cherry," but mine is the original and only genuine
preparation ever introduced to the public, which
can be proved by the public records of the Common
wealth of Pennsylvania. The only safeguard against
imposition is to see that my signature is on each
bottle: Re. ff. SwAyrze,
Corner ofEighth and Race streets, Philada.
SUOO Deaths by Consumption
Would perhaps he a small estimate for thi ravages of
' this dreadful disease in a single year; then ddd the
fearful catalogue of those cut Irby laflirmation of
the Lungs, hemorrhage, Afthma, Coughs, Influen
za, Bronchitis, and other diseases of the Lungs and
Liver.
And the list would present an appalling proof of
the fatality of these two classes of diseases. But it
is important to know that nearly all of this dread
waste of human life might have been prevented by
a timely use of DR. SWAYNE'S COMPOUND SY
RUP OF WILD CHERRY.
This medicine has now been before the public
some eight years, and is the original preparation,.
from the Wild Cherry Tree. Its reputation as rem
edy for Coughs, Colds, Bronchitis, and Consumption
of, the Lungs based entirely upon its intrinsictnerits,
owes but little to inflated newspaper puffs. Those
who give it a trial, being beneihted by it, recom
mend it to _their neighbors, and thus gradually and
surely hasitgained an enviable reputation and worked
its way into general use. One bottle never fails to
cure a recent Cough or Cold, while with strict atten
tions to the directions that accompany each bottle,
its use in Pulmonary diseases of long standing and
of the most alaraing character, has always given re
lief, and in very many instances has effected corn
pletc and permanent cures.
Betkare of the worthleis "Ralsams,""
"Syrup's," 4-c., as they contain none of the virtues
of the original preparation.
The (original and only) genuine article is prepared
by DR.. SWANE, corner of Eighth and Race streets, I

the United States, and some parts of Europe.

A Mast Extraordinary Letter.
ripIII Ites .1.0. Gilbert, a Methodist. Episcopal
Preacher, writes to Dr. Jayne—Morristown, 111.
April 27, 1847. Dear Sir—l never but once used
your medicines; it was as follows*: I was at our
country seat, and retired to bed about eleven o'clock,
in good health, and fell asleep, but %SW soon awak
ened by extreme pain in one hand and arm. I suc
ceeded in keeping my bed till about four o'Clock.
When I arose I found my hand badly swollen, or in
'a high state of inflammation. A small black spot on
the back of my hand, about the size of a five cent
p,ece. It soma rotted and came 'out to 'the bone.
When 1 arose the pain was very severe, running into
my head and over the whole system. Ity twelve 0 , 1
clock my head and face were badly swollen. The
glands of my throat swelled very much, and by thia i
time every tooth in my bead was more or lets loose;
two thirds of the skin of my mouth and lips peeled
olf; any sight quite effected; no physician near.'
I solicit( d my friends to take me home, (fifteen miles)
but they were fearful I could not stand it, when T.
F. Davenport, who kept the public house, requested !
mo to go to his house. Chills, faintness and sickncs
was constantly increasing upon me; I had become
almost insensible. As I reached his house, his moth
er, alarmed at my appearance, met me at the stove
with a spoonful of JAYNE'S ALTERATIVE, and
repeated the dose two or three times in the course
ofan hour, in which time the faintness, sickness and
chills had, principally loll—a free perspiration was
on the surface and the inflammation vastly abating.
The,third day 1 was able to ride home. The Rev.
Dr. Plympton informed me the attack was one ofd
the severest Sind of Malignant Erysipelas, and that
the use of your ALTERATIVE was the incanwef saving
my life. Respectfully yours, &c.

A POSITIVE AND PERMANENT - CURE: FOR
ItILEUNATISH
AND ALL NERVOUS COMPLAINTS.
"What though the causes may not be explained,,
Since their effectaare duly ascertained,
Let not delusion j prejudice, or pride,
Induce mankind to set the means aside;
Means which, tho' simple, are by Heaven design'd
To alleviate the ills of human kind."
DR. CHRISTIE'S GALVANIC RINGS AND MAG
NETIC FLUID.
THIS remarkable invention, which has received
the universal approbation of the medicarprotes
sion of Great Britain, comprises an entirely new a - 11-.
plication of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means
of which the ordinary Galvanic Batteries, Electric
and Magnetic Machines, &c., are entirely dispensed
"with, and the mysterious power of Galvanism applied
without any ot the objections which are insepara.ble
from the general mode now in use. The strong dos
es, and irregular intervals, in which Galvanism is Sp
plied by the Machines, has been pronounced,' after a
fair and impartial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and
it was to remedy this radical defect that this new ap
plication was projected, which, after-unceasing toil,
and perseverance, has been brought to :its present
State ofperfection. The Galvanic Rings answer all
the purposes of the most expensive. Machines, and
in many other, respects sre more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in all
disorders which arisefrom an enfeebled and unhealthy
state of the nervous or vital system, and these eons
! plaints are among the most painful and Universal to
which we are subject. They arise, withoWt exception,
&Om one simple cause—a derangement of the Nerv
ens System—and it was in these eases that other
'remedies' having so often failed, a new. .gent was
greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, has
been found in the proper and judicious application'
of Galvanisin.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire
success in all cases ofßwx.miakrisin, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs, Gout, Tic-Dols
roux, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous Siclr
Headache, Indigestion, Paralysis, Palsy; Epilepsy,
Pits Cramp, Palpitations of the Heart, Apoplexy,
Minas of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lumbago,
Neuralgia, Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the Head,
pain in the Chest and Side, Geheral Debility, Deficien
cy of Nervous and Physical Energy, and all N Eau-
OUS DISORDERS,' In cages ofconfirmed Dyspepsia,
which is simply a nervous derangement ofthe diges
tive organs, they haie been found equally successful.
Their extraordinary effects upon the system must be
witnessed to be believed, and as a. certain preventive
for the preceding complaints they are equallyrecom-
I mended. The Rings are of different prices, being
made ofall sizes, and of variotu ornamental patterns,
and can be worn by the most delicate female without
the slightest inconvenience. In fact, the sensation
is rather agreeable than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, &c;
In some cases of a very severe - character, and of
long standing, the power as applied.by the Galvanic
Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of disease
and ultimately restore health. The improved modi
fication in the Galvanic Bells, Bracelets, &c., entire
ly remedies this objection; any degree of power that
is required can readily be obtainc,d, and nmcomplaint
which the mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect'
will fail to be permanently relieved. These articles
are adapted to the waists, arms, wrists, llmbe, ancles,
or any part of the body; with perfect convenience.
The Galvanic Necklaces are used with greater bene
fit in cases of Bronchitis or affections of the throat
generally; also in cases of Nervous Deafness; and
with almost uniform success as a prel entire for Apo
plexy, Epileptic Tits, and similar complaints.
Christie's Magnetic Fluid
is used in connection with the Galvanic Rings and
all their modifications. This composition has been
pronounced by the French Chemists to no one ofthe
most extraordinary discoveries ofmndern science. It
is believed to possess the remarkable pouer of rea
-1 (tering the nerves seli;itive to galvanic action by this
means causing a concentration of the influence, atthe
seat ofdisease, thus giving rapid and permanent re:
lief. No other composition in chemistry is known to
produce the same effect, or to impart a similar pro
perty to the nervous system, by means °fait outward
local application. The Magnetic Fluid contains noth
ing capable of the slightest injury; itsapplication is
agreeable, and itTis as harmless in its action as it is
beneficial in its results. Full explanations and direc
tions accompany it. The combined inventions are in
every way perfectly harmless; they are sold at prices
within the reach of all and the discoverer only re
quests a fair trial as a test of their purprising efficacy
and permanent benefit.
Christie's Gulvanit Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application
ofthe mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are
an important adjunct to the genuine Galvanic Rings
and their modifications, acting upon the same princi
ple, but having the advantage attune local applica
tion. They are confldentlfrecommended as a valu
able addition in the speedy cure ofalieumatiarn, acute
or chronic; in all nervous complaints, and as a posi
tive remedy in cases of Pain. and Weakness in.the
Chest or Bark, Pain in the Side, in Asmatic Affections,.
and in Weakness or Oppression of the Puhnonary Or- ; l
guns. In Spinal Complaints their effects are of thed
most decided character, and they have often been
used with complete success. They are also of the
greatest advantage in Pains and Weakness of the
Breast, and are highly recommended for many °films°
complaints to which females are especially liable. As
an effectual means for strengtheningthe system when
' debilitated with disease or other causes; as a certain
ald in Constitutional Weakness, as a Preventive of
Colds, and in all affections of the Chest, generally,
the Galvanic Strengthening Plaster will be found et
great and permanent advantage. In a few words; it
embraces all the virtues of tha best tonic preparation,
with the important addition of the galvanic influence
which is neither impaired nor exhausted,. while the ,
action continues. These articles will be tbund entire
ly free from those objections which are a constant
source of , complaint with the ordinary plasters in
Common use.
Mr" The great celebrity and success of these aid
; cies have caused them to be counterfeited by "nprin
eipled persons. To provide against imposition, Dr.
Cnais-rix has but one authorized agent in each city of
the Union. The only agent in Pittsburgh, -
W. W. WILSON.
CERTIFICATES AND TESTIMONIALS,
Of the highest and most respectable character, are ' ,
constantly received, regarding the extraordinary
value and success ofthe above articles. It libeller
ed that in the city of New York, Alone, upwards of
EIGHT THOUSAND PERSONS during a period of
less than a year, have been entirely relieved of the
most painful chrOnic disorders, some of which have
complete* baffled all former fforts of medical art.
indeed many of the first physicians of this city, who
disapprove of the Galvanic and Magnetic Machine,
constantly recommend this application in their prac
tice, and with the exception of those who are too
prejudiced to give it a trial, the invention has re
ceived unanimous favor with the most intelligent
among the American Faculty. Dr. Christie is - at all
times ready and most happy to give every facility to
physicians, and all interested, for testing the , truth of .
his assertions and the efficacy of his discovery. ~
