PIITSTDRGII DAILY M9RNING POST.
LOCALMATTERS
A CRAZY MA.2I arrived in our city on Thursday
morning, having, travelled twentreight miles the
previous night. He started from some place in I
Washington county. His brother followed; and
~secured the services of the Mayor's police, to
search for him. Officers Bougher abd Boston found
- him in the street, without shoes or hat, just as he
had left home. Mayor Adams furnished hint
with something to eat, and gave him into the cus
tody of his friends, who returned home with him.
He is entirely deranged; his conversation is wild
- and incoherent. He is•a tall, stout man; and
has
been, we learn, quite respectable. He belongs to
a good Washington county family. His friends
have had him stdißumbus, Ohio, for the purpose
of -getting him into the Asylum for the Insane, in
- that city; but be was not admitted—upon what
.grounds we have not learned..
Flax oe Tnunsnar MORNISU.—About 3
clock on yesterday morning, a fire broke out in a'
stable belonging to Mr. Warren, on Poplar Lane.
in the Sixth Ward, which was destroyed. A horse
belonging to Mr. W. was also burnt to death.—
Two or three frame houses adjoining were destroy
-ed at the same time. The firemen were on the
ground, and did all they could to save property, but
water was scarce, They saved the buildings in
the neighborhood.
ozT The Treasurer of the Western Pennsylvania
Hospital, mentioned to us, that he had received a
day or two since, a single donation of One Thous
and Dollars, from an estimable gentleman residing
in this county. The cash was paid down at the
time of subscribing. Such acts of charity need
no comments.
FOUND DEAD.—Coroner Richar
upon yesterday morning to hold an inquest upon
the body of a man, who was found dead in a lot
'in the Ninth Ward. He appeared to be about
middle aged, and tolerably well dressed. He had
no papArs on his person, from which his name or
place of residence could be inferred. The initials
"L. B." were on a handkerchief found in his
pocket. Some paper was found with him labelled,
" Poison—take care." The word arsenic was mark
ed on it with a pen. It is supposed that he poi
soned himself.. The neighbors saw him the night
previous lurking about the premises. He bad a
pew knife and . razor in hll . po'cket. The verdict
of the Jury was. in accordance with the above
facts. •
Czirtivor •nt:E.—The experiments at the Odeon
on Wednesday evening, were almost total failures. ,

The lady's eyes were secured with adhesive plan.
ter, by Dr. Dilworth. H. W. Williams anAndrew
Wylie, • Esqrs She either saw of guessed at a
white hat that was held up in the audience. A
glazed cap was put up on a cane. She described
it thus: "I see something black and shining; it
looks like silk; and I think it is on a stick."
This was evidence that She did see indistinctly.
After this she failed entirely.. She said that she
could not see, and refused to try.
Mr. Gihon stated, that, inasmuch as the subject'
had tailed, those who could not make it convenient
to visit thedi on 'hnrsday evening,.should receive
their money back; those %%kir, could would be sup
idled with tickets. He said - he would not leave
"-Pittsburgh until he had satisfied the pettplethat
-Miss Martha could read bandaged with adhesive
`plaster; "she has read with her eyes plastered. and
she can do it again." With this the audience ap•
peared satisfied.
—Last evening, Miss Martha failed again. No!
one appeared surprised at it, as it was evident!
from her appearance and and manner, that she la
bored under great nervous excitability. .Mr. W
il
hams, of Ate Committee, stated hat in the after
noon the lady was conducted to Philo Flail, where
she met a Committee of the Philological Institute.
Who proceeded to test her clairimyant powers.
Shewas first bandaged with black kid gloves, raw!
cotton, handkerchief and twine; and read every
thing that was presented to her. This bandage
was removed, and another put on, which was con•
sidered effeCtual in blinding her eyes ; the Corn-', ,
mittee considered it impossible that she could see
up; between the bandage and the forehead. A
number of objects were presented, which did nut
come below the foreheadand which she did not
touch with her own hands--and she described
them accurately. gibe failed only in telling the
time on a watch.
Gov;Porter will leave for the east in a day
or two for' the purpose of making engagements
with theatrical stripes and stars.
iry What excuse can the City •Councils have for
not havingithe basin cleansed since the proposition
of supervisbr Smith to do it for $5.
It must be borne in mind that this is a matter
with which the Canal Commissioners have nothing
to do—the Aqueduct belorigs to to the city.
We understand that the members of the
Eagle Fire Company intend purchasing a new Ma
chine to supply the place of the one sold to the
Washington people.
(Cr The Local Editor of the Gazette says that
a Sugar Refinery is shortly to be established in
this city. The machipery is to be constructed
by Mr. Aymes.

this notorious burglar, on the motion for a new•
