He went out to put up a horse, and left a man named Dougherty in the bar room. Id the morn ing he missed the pocket book and contents which he had left in his vest pocket. He at once suspected Dougherty, informed the police, and engaged of. ricers Hague and Patterson to go in search of him. YeSterday, about 10 o'clohk, they found him in Lawrineeville, at a publiclouse. He was arrest. ed, brought to the city,•and examined betbre Steele Twenty-two dollars of the money was iden tified. ~ He bad in his possession about the amount -lost by Mr. Burdick; Twenty-five dollars in counterfeit mor.ev, on the Lafayette bank of Cin -cinnati, Was also found. Dougherty is from Beaver count!, a man about middle aged: and not very well dressed. He has _no 'family. -He is now in jail, awaiting his trial at -the next term of the Court. 3jr. There are meetings for reform; and conservative gatherings. There are religious, social, and political speeches to be heard on almost every night. There is a great deal of truth, amid considerable humbug, given out by speakers and propagandists of the respective Parties that meet in the aforesaid locality ! The exact amount of good that may be done, we can not estimate, but dam say there will be some; for there is good in every thing. We hope the Police may continue to protect the Market House meetings.
