The .business of the week generally, bas been
1 ,
unisually g2pd. - The sales of groceries and pro
visions haire'been 'quite large, and the prides firm,
without; ,ariypate' F ialehante. There haj been a
good deal'ofr excitement- in the Flour market,
Within the last few day; and prices havelgreatly
advanced, as will be . pereeived by the i quotations
below; , The weather has been altogether favor
able' tolnisitiess.. The iivers have kept at' a-good
,
', I stand for steam=boats, although now slowly,fllng.
' We'have haseveral fine showers of iain during
othe week 'lda have, assisted naviir, l atitin very
(much. fr,'• ,
Aldises , may be said to be tolerably easy! at i
pre
sent, altho'ugh o there . is apparently but little afloat
beyond the immediate wants of trade. , The rates
of discruni on the common currency may always
be taken as.a pretty good criterion of
M. thezabun
danie scarcity of the market as to funds.! When
. i
paper currency t abundant and beyond the de
mand, the' rates of discount advance, and vice
versa , The rate is'now only one half per Cent.—
The specidations in breadstuffs have caused a de
mand for all the current funds, and henCe the low
rate: After a time the funds will dow back from
the coffers a the farmer, and the old rails may
prevail. Exchange continues at i- preiniuM.
Despite of the Tariff of '46, the mertantilc,
manufacturing and agriculturl interests appear to
he in an extremely prosperous condition, and the
, prospects befiire us do'not indicate a decline.
