To Coal Mineral • and others:
. . . .
MI-IE undersigned solicit information of those ac-
J_ (painted with the best mode of working Coal
mines by shaft. There are severitl so worked in the
this county at a depth Of 300 tolLopo feet, and in
England - at 1,800 feet below tl4e surface. Of the
Several strata in this prOperty, the principal one is
at about one-tenth of the latter distance (180 feet.)—
There is_ a shaft in successful Operation near this,
city, obtaining n purer article - than our pit coal, and
at less expenle than pits generally, [including haul-I
when in addition our principal strata iii two or
three times the thickness Of that in pits; and with!
another great advantage, it could he used on. the
ground where obtained, as the location even without ,
the extraordinary advantage, is 'well known to be I
one of the best in the country for every deserip-1
lion of manufacturing. i - I
It is also believed that this coal, from its peculiar
nature and purity, may be adapted io the manufac
ture of Iron from the Ore, if so,I it will offer great
indueemeits for extensive operations on this side
of the river.
We have had applications from persona accustom
.ed to working coal by shafts, wile have strongly urg
ed its adoption- by ns, as being!, in every point of
sieve advisable and highly advantageous. We are
desirous or obtaining further information on the sub
ject, and should it prove 153tisra4tory, we will cell
or lease the privilege or sinking' a shaft and work
ing tha Coal. 0. ORMSBY GRECO,
