J., June 10, 1846 Dr. D. Jayne No S South Third st., Philadelphia— Dear Sir: I have ',this day had an interview with the gentleniari of whriqn I made mention to you as hav ing taken Your Etpectoz ant with such decided effeet. lie is a respectable farmer, living a few miles from here. ..I was so much interested in a detailed account he gave me of his cough and cure, that I embrace the first leisure moment to communicate it to you,, and if the cure is as radical as it appears to be, it is the most.remarkable one I have ever known. For 3.2. years (after having the measles) he has been sof: feting with a cough of the most distressing kind, get ting worse as he advanced in years; he is now 55. Frequent terms of cqugliing and difficulty of breath ing, lasting from an hour to an hour and a half, would I come upon him with such severity as to exhaust him with strangling until his eyes became bloodshot. Ile' had desliaired of being cored having tried physiciansl and a thousand things without relief: For nine weeks! ithmediaiely previous to taking the Expectorant, he hid not been able to go to his barn although there! was the meat urgent necessity for him to do so. I - iDuring the nine weeks he was under the care of: an ehineniphysici.mm, and he finally just got able to go onctind eame to my store, and hearing his cough,l recommended to him your Expectorant. Ile first said he had tried so many things that he had no confi deuce in any thing; but I induced him to take a bottle by, telling hint of persons of my acquaintince who • had been decidedly benefitted by it. This was on Tuesday; that night he took of it, and says that it was the first comfortable night's sleep he had onjoyed.for ; years. On the Thursday following be wont to work, anti has continued to make a full .hand on his farm ever since jnoW nearly two mon;hs.:,l Ile told me to-day that for the last week he had Mit and split al linudred rails, ormade a. hundred panels of fence per I day; has . been in the water to wash his sheep, and otherwise exposed, without thedeast symptom of a! return of his cough, it haring entirely disappenredi and, strangest of all, one-third of a bottle has pro- 1 duced the effect. He seems so i thankful and over joyed .that he "wants to talk all day about it," and says that if he could not procure another bottle, he would refuse one hundred dollars fur the remainder of the . bettle he had left. t,„ :Your Carminative Balsam I have used or recom- Mened to others for the last ten yours, with the most salutary effect, Respectfully yours, BOSTON, Dec. 8 Joit:q IL Ana:MON. In Thither execution of the said act, I have caused the Commissioner of the General Laud Office to with this' proclamation a brief deacription (Witte mineral regions in which these lands lie, and of the lands now offered for sale, which he has nirei.arcd from official documents and other means Of infor mation. Given under nit , hand at the City of Washington, this eighth day Of September, Anzio. Dumini, One thousand eight hundred and forty-six. _ . By the President: JAMES K. POLK. JAMES If. VIPPI, 4cling Commi.leioner of 11e General Land o,ffieo The lands in the DIXON district, embraced in the above proclamation of the President of the United States, were explored by 111r..0wen, the geologist of the State of Indiana, under the instructions hem Jhe Treasury Department, and in compliance with a re solution attic House of Representatives, passed 6th February. ' 1839. The able report of this gentleman, published as document Islo. 239, Mouse Of Itekesen tatives, first ilessiim of 26th Congress, shows that these lands include all the productivemines, and the entire region in which, from observations during his survey, there is reason to believe that valuable veins of ore may readily be found. Further, that in,183,9, the lead mines of Illinois, lowa and Wisconsin, tho Ugh only partially workeikproduced upwards of thirty millions pounds of lead..—those of Illinois yielding their full proportion—and that the whole district, if properly mined, would yield one hundred and filly millions pounds per annum. Those lands being Ousted on and lied!. the Nis sissippiand Fever rivers, the cost of transporting the products of them to St. Louis is only about fifteen cents per hundred pounds. The soil is of excellent quality, and yields abundantly all the products of that latitude. The lands in the STIAWNEETOWN district have not been explored as fully as those in Dixon: Re cent discoveries have been made, however, of,rich veins of the sulphurct of lead and 'zinc contiguous and on both sides of these land's, indicating the existence of similar deposites within thorn. The th= cilities for manufacturing white and red lead arc represented as being ample; and as the lands are situated within about seven miles of the Ohio, river, the metal, in any forrn,.catt be transported to till the principal markets at a trifling cost.
