His physician has given him up. Window Caricatures.--Aperson at leisure can spend an hour very agreeable, provided he be a man of taste, in Cooking at the curioaitiei exhibi ted in' some of the Wood Street windows. Our fancy dealersare bringing their business to the tip of the fashion. We think the articles e x hibited are equal to any the east can boast of. There is a great change for the better during the past few years. The window of Gillespie & Zennedy is panic. ularly attr.ctire. We would walk a couple of squares to see - ft.- Mr. Hillier has his wi Idow most magnificently crowded, with a variety of ar. tides of beauty and utility. There are others we may notice hereafter: cc The Wood street Line of Omnibussea coup menced running yesterday, according to announce ment. We did not observe them crowded with passengers as they should have been, and as they will be as soon as our business men get the hang of them. The fare from the river to the canal is 5c.; low enough in all conscience for a jaunt in vehicles so splendid as these ornnibusses. Who Id not rather pay five cents than walk a mile, Lcularly When in a hurry. The Penneylritnia Regiment.—The Quarter-Mas- Agent in this city, ;qr. A. Gordon, has not received any officialinformation in relation to !ompanies that are to compose the Pennsylva. Regiment. 91C1,113C he has not made any per. lent engagement of buildings for a rendezvous- e Grays and Blues.--We have no information these companies; but there can be no doubt weir being accepted. The officers are husilyl aged in canvassing the city for the purpose of lg up their rolls. People who say that the ;burgh volunteers cannot be induced to enlist ig the war, know nothing of the spirit that atea them. ci.We saw yesterday a picture of the taking of Monterey. A very fair representation of the bat tle and the city we don't think. cj-Tbe alarm last night was raised by fire in Cully 's chimney, Wood street. (rj- - Hiram linltz takes the oath of office this morning. We think he will make a popular officer. HOSPITAL. We take pleasure in giving place to the follow ing communication: The "Brotherhood of St. Joseph," which is a beneficial and benevolent society, composed chiefly of Members of St Paul's Church, have resolved to establish an hospital, which will be opened as soon as the necessary arrangements can be made for the reception and care of the:sick. This, it is ho ped, will be effected in a few weeks. The hospital will be established under the care and manage ment of the Sisters of Mercy, who have given their consent to take charge of it, with the appro. bation of the Bight Rev. Bishop O'Conner. The Sisters will receive in their present dwell ing, as many patients as they shall be able to ac commodate, but arrangements will be made imme diately for the erection of buildings that will be permanently appropriated for this purpose. It is proposed to render the benefits of this institutien general, to confine its operations to no particular class or condition. Persons of every religious per. suasion will be admitted, and the right of twine. visited by any clergymen they prefer shall be granted to them. , Assistance will be offered-to the, poor and destitute to the utmost extent' of the means of the institution, and at the same time suitable accommodations-will be Prepared for re ceiving the strangers and the.homeless, who may be overtaken wilti sickness in our midst, and are i able to pay for attendance. As the services of the Sisters will be givengratuitously, the expenses of both departments will be comparatively light. The "Brotherhood of St. Joseph," from resources which they can certainly command, will be able to establish this - institution on a scale that will ac commodate a limited number, but as they desire to extend its benefits as far as practicable, they ap peal for aid to the public at large. The measure of its . usefulness will be regulated by the extent of - the snpport they shall receive. Committee's appointed for the purpose will wait 'on the citizens generally for their subscriptions. 'Contributions toward immediate preparations for the reception. of patients, can be sent to the Sisters of Mercy, Penn Bt.,' or t to...ames Hay, James Blake ly, Arthur Tiernon, John Coyle and J. S. My °tan ern : On the call for volunteers being made known here, we had last night a glorious meeting --at least 800 persons—assembled in the Odd Fellows' Hall. One thousand more would have been present, but there 'was not space for them. The gallant Walker was with us. He made two admirable speeches. The meeting was addressed by Gen Carrington Robert G. Scott, se nior, Gov. Smith, A. M. Snit)* ofEasex, Jahn-S. Caskie, and James Lyons. The utmost enthusi eam prevailed. About 70 volunteers are already enrolled. Two of my eons are among' them. We shall give 500 soldiers from this congressional dis trict. "All for our .conntil," ihouldbis our watch word., God bless . yOu CO: 1 31311TTEE OF.
