flighty bnportant.—The news received this morn
ing, at the Navy Department, from the Pacific, is
highly interesting. It, appears that Corn. Sloat,
previous to leaving the 'coast of the Pacific (on ac
count of ill health,) planted the . American ..Stars
and Stripes," at Monterey .and San Francisco, and
that he expected little or no difficulty from the
Mexicans in maintaining if there. He left Com.
Stockton in command of 'the squadron, who was
about taking possession of Lower
_Celifornia, with
the ships.under his command.
The British flag ship Collingwciod, SO gun ship
of the line, Admiral Sir Geo. Seymcitir, iitid entered
San Precise° and again left for the Sindwich
lilands. This was a damper on theltop es of the
Mexicans. -

Moore, arrived off the S. W. Pass, on the evening
of the 16th inst.. from the Gulf Squadron off Vera
Cruz Lieut. Chadwick, of the cutter, reached N.
Orleans on the 18th, and obligingly favored the
Tropic with the following items:
The cutter left the Squadron on the 6th inst.,
and Lieut.. Chadwick reports that Gen. Paredes left
Vera C,rui on the 2d instant, in a British steamer
for „Havana, and .was saluted by Abe castle of San
Juan de Ulloa. Corn. Conner was still in com-

Col, Fremont was at the head of some 150 men,
n pursuit of Gen. Castro, doing well. All Cali
ornia may be .considered as safely in our hands.
No further atMek had-beed made by any vessel
of the fleet on any• Mexican town, but the opinion
prevailed that another demonstration' would soon
be made against Alvarado. A Mexican schooner
had been captuted by one of our vessels, and the
seamen were busily engaged infating her out to be
employed against the above' named point. News
of the battle of Monterey reached the Squadron,
and imparted the liveliest joy among the officers
and crews. •
. . .
The 11. S. steamer Mississippi, from Pensacola;
schr. Ree&r, and, another. schooner, loaded with
coal, were spoken near Vera Cruz. Fears had been
entertained of the safety ot these vessels, as they
were out of time some twenty days, or more, having
encountered severe weather and were blown off for
many days. ;The U. S. steamer Flirt sailed for
Norfolk on the 3d inst. The health of the squa
dron was generally good. No intelligence of in
terest had been received from the city of Mexico
since the sailing of the U. S. sloop of war John
Adams,
The Ewing came too off the Brazos, on the Oth
inst., but had no communication with the shore.—
The steamship Sea, came off with the mail for the
1 steamship Galveston, but in consequence of the
boisterous weather, and heavy sea ; she was unable
to deliver it, and compelled to return. One of the
Rangers of Capt. Walker's company, who had been
taken at Matamoris by the Mexicans, made his
escape and found his way to the Squadrom. He
was brought to the Brazos on beard the Ewing, and
succeeded in reaching the shore, eager to partici
pate in any fight that might come off Lieut. Chad
wick brought up the mail from the Squadron. -

able to announce to my numerous fracas at home
and abroad, that notwithstanding the extraordinary
efforts which I have made to meet the many calls in

constant rush that is made on this popular establish

_Although but two and a half years
have elapsed since these celebrated Pills were first
introduce& to the public, the sale of thorn in the
Eastern and middle . - 'States has far, exceeded Dr.: l
Clickenersmostsanguine expectation's. During the
past year, alone;no +ems than 10,000 grosi of bexeS ,
have been sold in the State of New York!, 6,00 in
Pennsylvania, 4,000 in Maryland, 3,000 in New' Jer
sey,2,ooo in Delaware, and 9,000 in the New England
States, requiring the constant employment -of 27 '
hands, exclusive ot Printers and engravera. Ih the
same period, upwards of 200,000 copies' o 1 'the
"Family Doctor" hare been ordered by 'agents in
every section of the country. These facts 'mind
show, conclusively, that Dr. Clickeners Sugar; Coat-1
ed Pills, besides being tile very best medicine in the
world, arc held in the highest estimation by the public.
We might extend .this publication to an indefin
ite length, if we deemed it expedient to publish all
tersimonials we have received, &tit only from agents
but individrials and families; W fiS - have experienced
the benficial effects :of Cli4ener's Sugar Coated
Pills, but we deem it unnecessary. The' mist in
contestible, evidence of their unprecedented success,
are the numberless Imitations and Counterfeits which
have already appeared, notwithstanding the brief pe
riod they have been before the public. Even some
of our staunchest pill makers have had the audacity
to imitate the Capsule of Sugar, in order to disguise
the ingredients of their vile compounds, and -palm
them off for the "real Simon pure." uch paltry
shills cannot lastlong without exposing theirhideous
deformity. Truth and honesty must inevitably pre
vail over rascality and deception. • ,

Beware of, an 'imitation article called. Im
proved Sugar Coated Pills, purporting to be patented,
as both the pills and the pretended patent are for
in -

who, for. the last four or five years, has made his
living by counterfeiting popular medicines,
Otr Remember, Dr. C. V. Clickener is the 'original
inventor of Sugar Coated Pills, and that nothing of
the sort was ever beard of until he introduced them
in June, 1843. Purchasers should, therefore, always
ask for Clickenc.es Sugar Coated Vegetable Pills, and

Prepared Ak. Dr; George . Bennett,:qf New York city.
I pliE unprecedented siccers that has attended the
1. use of these pills in the practice of the proprie
tor for, the last six or eight years, has induced him
to yield to the importunities. of many who have used;
and been benefitted by them, and make arrange
ments to place them within the reach of the public
generally. In doing so be feels called upon to say
that the Indian Vegetable Restorative. Pills is deci
dedly superior to any with which be is acquainted.
They combine the properties of many of the best
vegetable medicines (used in no other pills) in such
a manner as to afford not ,only immediate and tem
porary but permanent relief. . .
The valuable tonic which enters into their com
position; bylheir action upon the secretory organs
hold in check the purgative principle, and induce a
gentle and natural operation, without inconvenience
.or pain, and While they restore a natural and healthy
, action of the stomach, liver and bowels, they in
: crease instead of diminishing the strength of the pa
tient. The general opinion that a powerful and vio
lent. purgative is necessary is founded in error; they
in general irritate the stomach and bowels, derange
the Secretions, and are productive of very serious
consequences, and itshould be known that the great
mans of pjllt in general use are composed of the
most powerful and irritating purgatives, and act with
too great a degree of violence, producing that de
rangement in the system that is followed by con
atigation oldie bowelsondigeation and costiveness.
From theae ;facts the natural inference would be
that to maintain uniform health it is necessary to
correct unhealthy secretions, expel morbid humors
and purify the system, by the use of a medicine that
will net efficiently yet mildly, assist instead of de
ranging the organs of the system, and thus. bring na
ture in its proper and healthy channel, to accomplish
which no medicine is superior to the Indian. Vegeta
ble Restorative Pills;.their operation is, in ordinary
' doses, to promote a natural and easy evacuation, and
at the same tune by their tonic property impart vigor,
and health to the system, but when a poweCful and
speedy operation is necessary, it willbe accomplish
ed by increasing thediie, which may be done with
perfect safety, as they are entirely Vegetable.

DR. CHRISTIE'S GALVANIC RINGS Ati:ii . ...340"4
• NETIC FLUID: :•'.•
THIS remarkable invention, which has received
the universal approbation of the medical profess
non of Great Britain, comprises an entirely new ap
plication of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means
of which the. ordinary Galvanic Batteries, Electric
and Magnetii Machines, &c., are ebtirelyrkepensed
with, and the mysterious power of Galvanism applied
without any of the objections which are inseparable
from the general mode now in use. The strong dos
es, and irregular intervals, in which Galvanism is ap
plied by the Machines, has been prOnounced, after a
fairand impartial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and
it was to remedy this radical defect tbat.this new illS•
.plication was projected; which, after unceasing toil,
and perseverance, has been brought to its preach)
state of perfection. The Galvanic Rings answer all. =
the purposes of the:most expensive Dlechines,'ami
in many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect. .
The Galvanic Rings used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in a/I
disorders which arizefrom an enfeebled and unhealthy
state of the nervous or vital system, and these CUM•
plaints are among the most peanut' and univernd to
which we are subject. They arise, without exception,
from one simple cause-a derangement of the Nero- '
out System—and it was in these cases that other
'remedies' having co ellen failed, a new agent was
greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, has .
been found in the proper and judicious application
of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire
success in all MACS of RHEUMATISM, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face orlimba, Gold,
rest, Toothache, Bronchitis, •Vertigo, Nervous Sick'
Headache, Indigestion, Paralysis, Pak% Eiritepsy,
Fits Cramp, Palpitations of the Heart, Apoplexy,
Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lumbago,:
Neuralgia, Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the Head, • : .
pain in the Chest and Side, General Debility, Defteien.
cy of Nervous and Physical Energy, and an NEW"- ,
OUS DISORDERS. In cases of confirmed Dyspepsia,
which is simply a nervous derangement of the diges
tive
organs, they have been found equally successful..
Their extraordinary effects upon the system mutt be
witnessed to be believed, and as a certain preventive
tlar the preceding complaints they are equally :teem
mended. The Rings are of different prices, being
made of all sizes, and of various ornamental patterns,
and can be worn by the most delicate feniale without
the slightest inconvenience. In fact, The sensation
is rather agreeable than otherwise. •
The Galvanic Belts, bas elets, Mande,
Ga , Necklaces &o.
In SOUle cases of a very severe. character, and of
long standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic
Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of disease%
and ultimately restore health. The improved modi
fication in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets &c., entire
ly remedies this objection; any degree Of power that
is required canveallily be obtained, and no complaint
which the mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect
will fail to be permanently relieved. These articles .
are adapted to the waists, arms, wrists, linibe, uncles,
or any -part of the body, with perfect convenience.
The Galvanic Necklaces are used with greater bene
fit in cases of Bronchitis or affectiobe of' the throat. -
generally; also in cases of 'Neriens Deafness; and •:
with' almost uniform success as a preventive for Apo- .
plexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar, complaints.

all their modifications. This composition has been
prorianced by the Preach Chemist' to be one of the .
most extraordinary discoveries of Modern science. It
is believed to possess the remarkable power of retie
dering the nerves seneitive to gctivadle action by this
means causing a concentration of the influence, et the •
seat of disease, thus giving rapid and pertihnent re
lief. No other composition in chemistry is known to •
produce the same effect, or to impart a similar Pro-
perty to the nervous system, by means of an outward
local application. The elagnetie Fluid ',contains nete.
ing capable of the slightest injury, itiapplication is
agreeable,. and it is as harmless in its setieb as it. is •-

These articles form another vainable application
of the mysterious influence of Galsablatn. They are
an important adjunct to the genuineCalranie Rings -
and their modifications, acting upon ate Mine
princi
ple; but having the advantage ot more local .applica
tion. They are confidently recommended as a vain- .
able addition in the speedy cure ofßheumatism, aente
or chronlcOn all nervous complaint's, and as a posi
tive remedy in races of Pain and Weaknese in the
Chest or Back, Pain the Side,in Asinatic Affections,
and in Weakness er Oppression of the Pulmonary'Or
gear. In Spinal Complaints thetr effech are of the
most deeidedcharacter, and they have often been
used-with complete success. They arc also of the
greatest advantage in Pains and Weakness of the
Breast, and are highly recommended for many of those .
complaints to which -females are especially liable. As :
an eiiectual means for strengthening the system wbeta
debilitated with disease or other causes; as a certain
aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a Preventive of,
Colds, and in all affections of the Chest, generally,
the Galvanic Strengthening Plaster will be found ot
great and permanent advantage. In a few words; it
embraces all the virtues of the bent tonic preparation,
! with the important addition of the galvanic influence,
, which is neither impaired, nor exhausted, while the
action continues. These articles will be found entire
ly free from those objections which are , a constant
source of complaint , with the ordinary -plasters in
common use.

value and swamies ofthe above articles: It is believ
