COMMERCIAL SLAIMART.
The advicei per the steamer Caledonia have cre
ated quite, an excitement in our market, and caul.
ed 'tte prices of flour and grain to advance. Buy
ere were freely offering $3.30, an advance of 50
cents per bbl. for Pennsylvania brands, and holders
refused selling.
The price of grain has also advanced under the
news. Sales of prime red wheat at 1 21 to 51 24
per bushel, which'is an improvement of 19 cts. per
bushel, on previous sales—active dernand--,,g00d
supply. Sales of prime yellow Corn at 70 to 73
cents per bushel; Oats 31; no change in Rye.—
Whiskey 25 to. 1213 . cents. The provisjon market
is firm, and prices unchanged. Cotton is firm and
tending upward. Merchants getierally are await
ing further advices from New York, and the re
ceipt of their regular letters.
The stock market remains unchanged. Sales.
of Pennsylvania 3's at G 7/. There is considerable
excitement in the Stock market.
New York, Oct. 22.
The news by the Caledonia was received here
by express last night, aad was published in the pa
pas this morning.
The markets are - much affected by the news, but
no reliable transactions have transpired, on which
to predicate a report. Prices of breadstuffs are
held higher; but the letters which are said to hare
been received, are reported to be contradictOry..
Some sales of Genesee flour were made at $8,25.
Holders of,corn are asking.Bo cents, but buyers do
not appear willing to give it at present.
/ Baltimore, Oct. 22.
The flour market to-day was feverish. The ad
vices from Europe, by the steamer Caledonia, a
telegraphic report of which. appeared is the Sun
on Thursday morning, caused holders to advance
their asking prices from 50 to 75 cents per bbl.—
In the absence of letters by mail, or further news
'from New York,-no transactions of moment took
place. A sale of 100 bbls. was effected at 55 50,
which is an advance of 50 cents. Nothing doing
in City Mills. Some holders ask $ adv once. No
sales of Susquehanna,. which holders have also ad
vanced. The supply of flour is moderate; receipts
fair. , -
Grain.—The.advance of wheat has been 10 to
13 cents per bushel, by holders;without sales since
The arrival of the steamer. Nallefinite quotations
can yet be given., Corn is in Letter request, and
prices have advanced from 2 to 3 cents per bushel.
Sales of old white at 48 to 70 cent's, and-yellow at
63 to 65 ets.;.new white and yellow 33(a3S cents;
Oats 3031 cts.; Rye 67 cents.
EFFECT oY THE Nsws o:v rue MAILIELT.—,
The Baltimore Sun of 'Friday morning says the
news by the Caledonia has had a most decided and
favorable effect on the market for breadstuff'', not
'only in Baltimore, but in Philadelphia and New
Xork,. The advance in hour demanded by holders
is equal to about . 71:i cents per barrel, whilst buyers
seem,..unwilling, to concede'more than 50 cents.—
Wheat has also made a rapid advance, and large
sales have been effected at the prices asked. Corn
is also held higher but no sales have been made, as
the advance rannot be sustained unless there should
be large orders from Europe to fill. The market
however, may be still considered as unsettled, and
we presume that on the receipts of private letters
today buyers and sellers will be enabled to come
to terms.

CLICKENER , S SUGAR COATED VEGETABLE
PILLS arc the first and only Medicine over
known that will positively cure
Headache, Giddiness, Measles, Salt Rheum,
Rheumatism, Piles, Heartburn, Worms, .
Dispepsia, Scurvy, Cholera Morbus,
Small Pox, Jaundice, Coughs, Quinsy,
Pains in the Back, Whooping Cough,
Inward Weakness, Consumption, Fits,
Palpitation of the Heart, Liver Complaint,
Rising in the Throat, Erysipelas, Deafness,
Dropsy, Asthma, Itchings of the Skin,
• Fevers of all kinds, Colds, Gout, Gravel,
Female Complaints, Nervous Complaints,
And all other diseases originating from impurities of
the blood.
DO" They have cured, since their introduction,
over 2,000 persons, who have been given up as hope
less cases, by the most eminent Physicians.
#)-They arcpatronized and recommended by
men of the highest distinction, among whom are—
Hon. David R. Porter, Hon. Henry Clay,
Hon. John Q,;Adams, Hon. Daniel Webster,
Hon. Martin Van Buren, Hon. J. C. Calhoun,
Gen. Winfield Scott, Col. R. M. Johnson,
Hon. James K. Polk,
tcr Their virtues are so infallible that the money
will be returned in all cases they do not give univer
sal satisfaction. Although but two and a half years
have elapsed since these celebrated Pills were first
introduced to the public, the sale of them in the
Eastern and middle States has far exceeded Dr.
Clickenees most sanguine expectations. During the
past year, alone, no less than 10,000 gross of boxes
have been sold in the State of New York, 6,000 in
Pennsylvania, 4,000 in Maryland, 3,000 in New Jer
sey, 2,000 in Delaware, and 9,000 in the New England
States, requiring the constant employment of 27
hands, exclusive 01 printers and engravers. In the
same period, upwards of 200,000 copies of the
"Family Doctor" have been ordered by agents in
every section of the country. These facts must
show, conclusively, that Dr. Clickenees Sugar Coat
ed Pills, besides being the very best medicine iu the
world, are held in the highest estimation by the public.
We might extend this publication to an indefin
ite length, if we deemed it expedient to publish all .
tersimonials we have received, not only from agents
butindividuals and families, who have experienced
the benficial effects of Clickener , ii Sugar Coated
Pills, but we deem it unnecessary. The most in
eontestible evidence qf their unprecedented success,
are the numberless mutations and Counterfeits which
have already appeared, notwithstanding the brief pe-
Jiod they have‘been before the public. Even some
of our staunchest pill makers have had the audacity
to imitate the Capsule of Sugar, in order to disguise,
the ingredients of their vile compounds, and palm
them off for the "real simon pure." nch paltry
shills cannot last long Without exposing their hideous
deformity. Truth and honesty must inevitably pre
vail °vet rascality and deception.

living by counterfeiting popular mmlicimi,
to- Remember, Dr. C. V. Clickener iu the original
inventor or Sugar Coated Pills, and that nothing of ,
the sari was ever heard of until he introduced them
in,Jurie, 1843. Purchasers should, therefore, always
ask for Clickenera Sugar Coated Vegetable Pills, and
take no other, or they will bo made the victims of a

the semetioni, and are productive' of very , serious
consequences, and irshould be kriown that the great
mass of pills in general use are composed of the
most powerful and irritating purgatives, and act with .
too great a degree of violence, producing.; that de
rangement in the system that is ; re -flowed by curt;
stigatioii (Attie bowels, indigestion and costiveness.
From these facts the natural inference - would be
that to maintain uniform health is necessary to
correct unhealthy secretions, ex4sel morbid humors
and purify the system, by the use, of a medicine that
will act efficiently vet mildly,- assist insteod of de
ranging-the o r gans of the system, and thud. bring na
ture in improper and healthy channel, to accomplish
which nornedieine is superior to the Indian Vegeta
ble Restorative Pills; their operation' is, in ordinary
doses, to proninte a natural and 'CriFY evacuation, and' •
at the same time by their tonic property imart vigor
and health to the system; but when a powiNful and
speedy operation is necessary, it Will be accomplish- •
ed by-increasing the dose, which' ay be done with
perfect safety, as they, are' entirely ; Vegetable.
They have been used as r family medicine for
years by many of the first respeciabilitv, and &Rho' •
they are not; recommended' to 44 heal all the ills •
that flesh is heir to;" yet it has been found very rare
.-
that it has been foundmeressary for those using them --
to employ any other Medicine, and their occasional
use mill atmostinvariably prove ant effectual prone
tire to disease.. They are exactly adapted to the use •
of families, travelers r ; ind seamen; they cleanse the ,
blood, causing a free eirculation—Open the obstruc- •
tions and promote the! secretions of healthy bile, and
consequently are:an excellent medicine for nausea,
indigestion, uerieus disorders, dejection, liver com
plaint, pains in the bead, side and breast, costive
ness, loss of appetite, -urinary obstructions, ague and -
fever, bilious and intermittent fever; dysentery, rheu
matism, acorfula, and are eminently useful in all :fe
male complaints—arid in one word;all diseases aris
ing from unhealthy secretions and; impurity of 'the --
blood. Numerous testimonials of their efficacy in
particular cases might be added, but the proprietor
prefers presenting a few certificates of their general
character, from from persons of unquestionable candor -
and veracity, who would not in any degree lend their -
influence to promote anything that ie not of decided
utility, and rely upon'Aeir. intrinsic merits to gain
them.a reputation, feeling- a • perfect confidence that
