arise of 4ibovt six inches; From Keokuk to Lou

Monday, October 5, 1846.
The news received from Europe by the
steamer i Great Western, has caused a Considerable
advaucejit flour: In our last review we quoted $3,-
624. as the price; immediately after the receipt of
the newt it rose to $3,75(a53,671, and this morning
holders :were asking $4,00(a4,127f. The receipts
and amount on hand is very small, and 'tVe should
not be the least:astonished to hear of transactions
in a foci days at f9II X 54,50. The rivers continue
very lon , , there being bilt twenty-tWO inches water
in the channel. The weather is mild and pleasant,
during pie day and the evening chilly'enough to
make-overcoats criinfortable.
Steaniboot .Collision —The steamers Monarch and
Die Vernon, the former going down and the latter
ascending the river, came in contact with each
other on the night of the 22d, in Plumb Point bend.
Forsotne time before they ran together, the lights
of each other - were seen, and by them it was ascer
tained that bath Were following the same channel.
TO ovoid a collision; the engines of the steamer
Die Vernon were stopped, which placed her in a
dangerous position,withlrer bow quartering across
the stream. The Other boat came on at her usual
pace, and fot a Moment or two, the.total destruc
tion of the Die Vernon %cis thought inevitable—but
by giving her -the wheels, she shot ahead just in
time to save herself from the full force of the oth
er's powerful bulk—and passed, with to other in
jtiry than the shattering of her larboard wheel
house.—St. Louis New Era, Sept. 24th.
