A Ficsntsfi Attempt to IS low up
A SCHOOL HOUSE AND 1'lKTKEN OH
Twentf Person's. A correspondent
informs us that a diabolical attempt at
wholesale murder was made in Huston
township, this county, on Saturday
evening September Cth : " While the
Good Templar Lodge was in session at
Mill Kuu, aa explosion of powder oc
curred beneath the floor of the school
bouse in which the organization met,
with auffioieut force to tip 07er the
tables aud hinps, while the fire burst
through the crevices in the floor and
Gl'.cd the bouse with a stifling smoke.
A further examination by daylight re
vealed the fact that the building bad
been lifted enough to allow the founda
tion to be pushed out of place. A
powder can, that would bold about 25
pounls was fouud under the house, torn
to pieces. Bushes had been cut and
placed over the opening male in the
wall to introduce the can. The floor
beins a double one, it was strong
nough to withstand the shock even to
Mgitly lifting the bouse and pushing
out lie wall thus enatlmg the powder
to expend its force latterly, and thwart
ing the evident intention to blow np
fifteen or twenty men and women. No

for each a dastardly outrage, aud we
hope (he fiends who made this attempt
to injure and maim, or destroy the lives
of, bo large a number ef innocent per

capacity, may be discovered sod pun
