David Fink and others, on Saturday,
were on a hand car, on their way to
work. A short distauce below Black
Log Station, a small stone on a rail so
disturbed the balance of the car that Mr.
Fink fell off and broke an arm.

ments of the Juniata Sunday School
Association will provide entertainment
for all delegate who send their names to
the chairman on or before the 24th iust.,
but will not agree to entertain any others.
Therefore, as soon as they are appointed,
they will at once notify him of their in
tention to be present. When the dele
gates arrive in town they will please re
port themselves, without delay, to the
Committee at the Presbyterian church.
All ministers and Sunday School super
intendents in the county are members,
ex officio. Each school is requested to
send four other delegates.

They are between five and six inches
lone, and three inches wide. ' There are
ruled lines on the stamped side for the
address. The word "To " is on the
back of the cards. Th, communication
is intended to folfow that word. Tbey

cheap letter or postal communicatien.

situation as brakemau on a freight train
-as caught between two cars while in the
act of coupling a train at the upper cross
ing at Patterson, on Saturday, about hall
past ten o'clock A. M., and so seriously
injured that he died abnut fifteen rain
utes past ten o'clock, A. 51.,-on Sunday

Somb people say thero is both a dog
and hog law needed in Mifflin. Th
former they allege is needed to extirpate
the horde6 of worthless dogs, and the
latter is needed to house the troops ol
rooting boss. It is suggested tbat some
of these gentlemen read the dog story
publixhed on the first page of this paper,
to the city fathers. Perhaps the mere
possibility of. such a ludicious dog play
taking place in the village might induce
them to pais a law or ordinance relative
to dogs. .

The Lewistown Gazelle says : Emma,
the only child of James Collanbine, re
siding at the station across the river, was
instantly killed on Friday evening at the
ort curve on the Mifflin & Centre Rail
road in the rear of the old station house,
now occupied as an eating house, by be
ing struck by some cars which the shifter
was backing towards the junction. The
mother had left tfce house but a few mo
ments bt-foie to obtaiu milk for supper,
leaving the little girl at home. She how
ever got out towards tho track, and pro
bably became bewildered bythe cries of
several persons who saw her danger, was
struck by the cars, and the upper part of
her head almost taken off. She was an
interesting and intelligent child, a little
over four years old. and the sad bereave
ment of the parents created unusual
sympathy.
Local Option, despite the sueers of the
hypocrites who, while pretending to favor
it take every occasion to decry its work
ings, is gaining favor by its marked con
trast with the old whisky days. Drunk
enness on toe streets is ot rare occur
ence ; the loafers w ho used to frequent
drinking places are scattering to other
and better pursuits ; and numbers from
the country whossed to take the bull
by the horns on Saturdays aud pay days
as a rule, go homo sober to happy wives
and entiling sweethearts 'Thank God,
for local option," said a poor woman the
ither day ; 'my liusb tud to day brought
me home a dress the firet present in
nine long and droary years!"
Eleven deer in one troop, probably
aware of the game law iu their favor at
this time of year, came down Beatty's
knob into the open fields sotno ten days
or so ago, performing all kinds of antics,
puch as running, jumping fences, &c.

ulations, Friday, May 30th, will be ob
served as a memorial dayfor the purpose
of strewing with flowers, or otherwise
decorating the graves of comrades who
died in deleiise ot.tueir country during
the lato rebellion, or who have since
passed away. Citizens -generally, mili
tary and civic associations, churches and
Sunday schools should be invited to par
ticipate, and in places where there are no

that the citizens will join together for
his purpose, that fitting services njay be
held in every church yard or cemetery
where our dead heroes sleep.
The manner of conducting these ser
vices is optional with Posts, but those

Sheep attract considerable attention, and
full prices are obtained. Sales of wooled at
