MISCELLANEOUS. a A Sad Honeymoon. About a year ago a young my named Slotson, eon of a wealthy citizen of Ra cine, Wisconsin, fell in love with a beau tiful daughter of Mr. Dowd, Mayor of the same city, also a gentleman of afflu ent circumstances. The parents of the . young lady had good grounds for urging objections to her lover, whose character was known, and they strenuously op- posed his offer of marriage. The young people, however, were determined on forming a uniou, and so eloped to .Ken ceba. Win , Leie they were duly but cUiudetin ly nnittd in the indissoluble ties of matiiatony. Young Slosson soon after came to Minneapolis, Lis father fur D Lib in p him means to purchase a fine Louse aud to lire in a style of more than ordinary comfort and elegance. Slotson, it now transpires, was nothing less than a confirmed brute, and he early commenced a systematic a We of Lis wife, often beating her in the most cruel and outrageous manner. His ui. happy and unoffending wife was totally in bis power, and fur many months she bore her outrageous treatment without com pluint. Having left her home against the inclinations and protests of her parents, ahe did not acquaint them with tlio mis ery which followed the disregard of their advice in marrying the heartless wretch who Lad so grossly deceived her. Peo ple at the Falls, however, became ac quainted wiihftbe circumstances, and the fact of Mrs. Slosson's ill usage finally reached the ears of Mayor Dowd, of Ra cine, and be at once seut Mrs. Dowd on a visit to their daughter to ascertain the ibixifrit&Z9Si: "" A few weeks ago Mrs. Dowd reached Minneapolis on a tour of observation, and she had cot long to wait in the new borne of her daughter to find out that the stories had not been exaggerated. One morning, shortly 'after her'arrival, while at the breakfast table, young Slos son too exception to something, and pro ceeded at once to assault his wife, first striking her with Lis first, and then, grasping her by the throat, choked her nearly to death. The terrified mother screamed, and attempted to relieve her daughter from the clutches of the cow ardly brute, and in doing so suffered Jin like manner, for Slosson, leaving his wife half dead, turned upon Mrs. Dowd and knocked her down with the butt end of a pistol, inflicting several terrible gaehes on her head, and bruising her so severe ly that she was coofined to her bed for several days. Mrs. Dowd, however, managed soon after to telegraph the facts to her hus band at Raciue, who, with a friend by the name of Seymour, took the first j train for Minneapolis to rcscuo Jthe Lap- less women. Mr. Dowd took charge of his daaghter, and started back to Racine with her, leaving his wife still confined to her bed at Minneapolis, with iuetruc tions to follow with Mr. Seymour as soon as she was able to endure the fatigue of the journey. Slosson, all this time, kept out of the way, but shortly after the de parture of the father, he returned to the Louse and attacked the old lady, and he was in the very act of beating her when lie was interrupted by policemen, who were on the watch for him, and who re taliated by pitching the savage scoundrel headlong down stairs. Complaint was now made against the merciless scoundrel by the old lady, but Slosson took lejr bail, and struck out for b:a old home, in Racine, thief Kent came to St. Paul, secured a requisition from Governor Austin on the Governor of Wisconsin, and last week took the trail of the unfeeling scoundrel. Ad vices from Racine inform us that young Slosson was seen at that place a day or two before Kent's arrival, but with the assistance of his father and some friends b was secreted, and at last ' accounts Chief Kent had not been able to lay his Lands on his man. Mr. Kent, however, has by no means given up his pursuit, and it earnestly to be hoped he may be bronght back to Minnesota, and if he docs not tret a chance to try some of Jackman'a "duff " at Stillwater there is not as much virtue in Minneapolis judges as they have credit for.
