years since installation services were
conducted by aud for the Presbyterian
congregations of Mifflin aud McAlister

credit to himself and great satisfaction to
his people. Rev. Mr. Lawrence read a
chapter and offered a prayer. - Kev. Mr
Baron preached the installation sermon
Dr Hamil propounded the constitutional

Mr. Editor : Permit me to say a word
through your columns, in regard to the
trees in aud around onr public square
These were gratuitously planted by a
former citizen of our town. They are
an ornament to the boroogh, and should
be pioperly cared for. This duty de
volves on tbe county commissioners, and
they should see to it. The trees needed
pruning badly this spring, bnt no one at
tended to it. Some of them are already
showing signs of decay which with prop
er care would no doubt have been fresh
and vigorous. This is no doubt owing
to tbe fact that they have been used as
posters, for all kinds of bills,' and nails
have been driven into them. It is well
known that this is injurious to the trees
and if we wish to preserve them, meas
ures should at once be taken to prevent
this by the proper authorities.

Mother, thou hast gone before us.
Where tby saintly soul has flown,
Tears are wiped away forever,
And all sorrow is unknown.
O'er tbe toilsome way thou hast traveled.
And endured the heavy load,
Christ has brought (hy footsteps languid,
Safely to his blest abode.
When the Lord shall send his summons
Unto us who are left behind.
May we, by tbe world untainled,
Gracious welcome with tuee find.
Each, like thee, in peace departing.
To tbe kingdom of the blest,
Wbere the wicked cease from troubling,
And the weary are at rest.
