The Reading (Pa ) Eagle of Saturday evening a week contains the following particulars of the supposed murder of .John Simpson, of this city : ''Quite an- excitement was created in Hamburg last uighl by the disappearance of John Simpson, of Lancaster, a well known agent for farm imprenJents. He went to Hamburg for the purpose of collecting a number of bills. He stopped at the American House, and about dark started for the residence of Henry Geslee, ia a buggy, who resides 2 miles above Hamburg, towards Port Clinton. During the evening his horse returned home with the bugry and with one of the Hues cut about a foot back of the bridle, but Mr. Simpson was misehig. A search was made for the man, aud about one mile up the pike,, within the limits of the bor ougb. where the road rises thirty feet above the canal, and at a stone quarry, ' Simpson's coat was found with a hole in it, made by the stab of a kuife, which indicated that the nvin had been mur dered and his body thrown into the ca nal. His pocket book was found in close proximity to the coat. A number of papers of no value and a ticket for Isrrisburg were found in it, but there was no money. When he started from the hotel he had about SG00 with him, and said that if he succeeded in collect ing a bill that evening, he would be able to pay a note of S00. lie gave the hostler a dollar before he started off. The ground around where tho coat was found showed evidence of a struggle. The case was placed before the District Attorney, who ordered Chief Cullen aud Detective Lyon to inquire into the mat tel." "A correspondent states that this murtiinz a lanje number of citizens of Hamburg went out to make a thorough search for the body. Footprints have beeu found leading into the canal, at the side of the turnpike, where the coat was found." A telegram received in this city on Monday morning, from Jacob Simpson, ex-Policeman and a brother to the miss ing man, states that the body has not yet bor-rj recovered. Parti RiTig.N Without Pain "- We have received from the publishers Messrs Wood & Holbrook, No. 15 Laight St , New York, a copy of the above work, which contains instructions how to avoid almost entirely the pains of childbirth The accounts given by travelers of the marvelous ease, quickness, painlessness and freedom from disablement, with which many savage women bring forth children, is well known. There is great reason for believing that among some savage races neither pregnancy nor labor inter- rnI,t9 ,1)0 usu;l, avocations and move- ments of the mother, except, perhaps, for an fjour or two at the birth itself. It is uot, Lowtrcr, so generally known that the records of medical observations Con tain account? of a number of cases cf almost equally Complete contradictions of what is generally considered a primal and universal curse unou huuiauitv.' a I'r. Dcwccs, r.fie of the best aulhoii- ' obstetrics, has ar2ned in one of his publications, that pain in rh'Jilbirth iso morbid rimptom ; that it is a per version of nature, caused by modes of living not consistent with the most healthy condition of the system ; and that such a regimen as should insure such a completely healthy condition might be counted on with certainty to do away with such pain. In 1841 there was privately printed in England, a small pamphlet of twenty two pages, in which a gentlemen who was a chemist, gave an account of an experiment he himself tried in the case of his wife, whose labors had been so excessively painful that there was much reason to fear she could not survive the next one The result was so favorable that he felt it bis duty to publish It, with his name and residence. A few experi ments were made in Histon and vicinity, carrying ont the theory of tho author of the pamphlet alluded to, which had a distinguished success. The book before ns is a luore full exposition of the princi ples of the pamphlet, which is now out of print. It also contains other instruc tions and directions regarding the same sul ject, as well as directions for the care of children. Every married woman should have it. Send to Messrs.
