A Teachers' Aij mined Institute was held at Johns town ou ll.e 23id and 24lh inst. Supt Lloyd, a'ter calling the house to order, slat ed that, the object of the meeting was to im prove the teachers in their profession aud create a gi eater interest in the cause of education in the community ho hoped the teachers and friends of education would all labor for this end and happily were bis hopes lealized. . 'J he attendance of teachers and spc eta tors w as very large, especially of the latter. ')u Friday evening the house was crowd ed to a degree which rendered it greatly uncomfortable The discussions aud numerous blackboard illustrations were of the most instructive and practical character. The work was all done by the teachers and county Supeinteudent and Prof. Stone, of Academia, who evinc ed great interest iu the cause. During the session it wa3 agreed to form a Teachers' Library, to be located at Mifflintown. An additional sura of twenty-five dollars was donated by the Institute, and J M Garman was elected Librarian and Wellington Smith and J. M. Garman were appointed a committee to draw up a constitution for the Library Association. Upon motion the Institute adjourned to meet at Thompsontown March 29ih. XV. Smith, Sic'y. McAlisterville, Feb. 24, 1S72 As stated in your paper some time ago, the yonng men of Fayette township were organizing themselves into an In fantry company, but as this, like every thing else, was doomed to reverses, the success of the company was for awhile a matter of doubt, uot for the want of men these we Have in abundance but for some suitable leader. At the meeting of the company, on Saturday last, this difficulty was overcome, as will be ob served by the resolution that passed, and the gentleman aud soldier therein named coming forward and accepting the posi tion. This action of the Captain had the desired effect ; it infused new life iu to the hopeful, brought in the wavering and aroused the indifferent, so that yon can now put the company down aa a suc cess. The resolution referred to was the following : Rrsohed, That we, the members of the Fayette Union Guards, in company as sembled, unanimously tender to Lewis Degan the position of Captain, aud enter tain the hope that he will comply with this request of his former associates in arms. Nominations for permanent officers were made, and the election to t ike place Sat urday, March 2nd on which day the suits will be ready for use, .and ever member is required to be present by 10 o'clock precisely.
