Harvesting Corn.
Co'oml II an is aajs, iu the last uum

corn will yet be harvested as we harvest
wheat cut with a reaper, bonnd into
bundles (fa convenient size for pitching,
and then thriuthed or bunked by a big
machine driven by teu hordes or a steam
engine. It must be powerful enough to
take in a bundle at a time, strip off the
cars and hnfk them, and the sulks as
they pass through can be cut np and
elevated by a straw carrier. I believe
in less than ten years we shall see hun
dreds of f uch machines traveling from
farm to farm, as threshing machines now
do, and we shall wonder how we ever
got along without them."

writes Mrs. G. E. that if they wish their

they uiuft wash it twice during the sum

pint of salt, dis-tulved in a pailful of warm
soft wattr, drying the matter quickly
with a F'.ft cloth. The salt, she says,
will prevent it from turning yellow. Far
away, and from quite tut opposite quar

ging ua to say to our readers that after
oil-cloths are scrubbed and dried, they
thould he rubbed all ovtr with a cloth
dipped iu milk. "Yoa have no idea,"
says our friend, ''how brightly the col

It is generally considered that the
principle of rotation in crops is a modern
discovery, and yet nature has worked in
this way from tbe commencement. Proofs
of this are seen iu the vegetable remains
of rocks and coal beds, aud even now we
see the same principle at work whenever
we cut down a pine woods, which if al
lowed to grow in timber again is replac
ed with deciduous trees, as oaks beeches,
maples, etc, while a beech or maple or
oak wood cut off will be replaced with
pines. Here is undoubtedly rotation of
crops, and we merely follow nature when
we adopt the priuciple in onr agricultur

A gentleman in Vermont has raised
a new potato which he represents as
much earlier than any other variety.
The potatoes being of fine quality,
Messrs. Dliss & Son bought his stock,
allowing him to retain half a peck; he
entered into an agreement not to sell
this half peck of potatoes nor their pro
duce until 1S74 The raiser now writes
that a neighbor has ofTcicd him $500 for
tbat half-peck of potatoes, and he wishes
permission to sell them. The potato
has not received a name, but it will be
tried during the coming summer before
putting it npon the market.

"Kill the hogs in time to have the meat

at that time take the hams aud rub tbe

have adopted the above plan, I have

Scrofulous poison is one of the most destructive
enemies of our race. OOen, this unseen and unfelt
tenant of tbe organism undermines the constitution,
and invites the attack of enfeebling or fatal diseases,
without exciting a suspicion of its presence. Again,
it seems to breed infection throughout the bnilv, and
then, on some favorable occasion, rapidly develop
into one or other of its hideous forms, either on the
surface or among the vitals. In the latter, tuber
cles may be suddenly deposited in the lungs or
heart, or tumors formed in the liver, or it snows
iu presence by eruptions on the skin, or fonl ulcer
