Shelley, iu operation in a piece of wood about1 three miles northeast of Thompsqntown, in Delaware township. It appears that on Monday morning," tbe 8th inst., by some mistake water - wits not tamed into - the - boiler. .,' Fire was made under the boiler, bat its emptiness was sot discovered until it was red Lot, and a number of pipes bad been so dam aged by the heat that they were unsafe Work was of course suspended. A ma chines t from Harrisburg was brought to repair the damaged boiler. The machin ist pronounced the boiler ready for use on Friday, the 12ih inst. Water was turned on and the fire made. The ma chinist was making a final examination about noon, and had just pronounced the whole machine in working order, when a terrific explosion took place, tearing the mill to pieces, and scattering it in all di rection. The machinist was near the boiler and in a stooping attitnde at the time. The missiles passed over him ani did him no injury. A laborer named John Graham was instantly killed. He was abont 35 years of age, and leaves a wifu and five children Henry Rutn bangh bad two ribs broken and was bad ly scalded. Foster Dimm was badly scalded, and a young man named Jack son sustained severe injuriesTj The status of the county paper is truthfully set forth in the following, by an observing country editor: "We sometimes meet individuals who complaia about their county paper and cease to take it, preferring to subscribe for a city paper They do ' not seem to comprehend the facts in the relation to publications and support of papers. In the first place, the terms of nearly all city papers are the same as the county, 2 for a single copy, and the only way they get them for less than that price is by clubbing; and sending for a number of copies at a time. Then again they must invariable send the money in ad vance, which they seldom do for their county paper. But the principal differ ence consists in the fact that it. costs the publisher of the county paper the same to set Lis types that itdo?s the city pub lisher, and setting the type is the princi pal expense i.i publishing a newspaper of email circulation. After the type is once set the expense is then merely for blank paper and press work, and tin: pa per wild a hiifired thousand subscribers has the advantage at two dollars. Of course tins largf city papers contain a greater amount of reading matter than i i':t; Muuty papers, hut which is the most uM-ful aii-t inn-resting J Lo they conuiu notices of our schools, chnrches, nwtings marriages.' and hundreds of other lor.nl matters of interest which the county pa pers publish witi. out psy T Not an item Do they ever s.-'y a word calculated to ! draw at icntion to our county and to its i numerous tlirivin-: towns, and aid iu our ' nrorress and euternrire T Xot a line.
