and serious accident oa last Saturday
morning. He had a threshing machine
at wmk in his barn. One of the peculi
arities about the machine is. that it has a
narrow opening above the cylinder. Mr.
Switzer was removing straw as it came
from the shaker. Noticing that a sheaf
of wheat which was put on the machine
for some purpose was displaced, he step
ped b ick, lifted the sheaf and put it
down just above the opening referred
to, iuto which his left baud fell, aud was
instantly caught by the spikes in the
cylinder B th the hand and forearm
was torn nil and ground to pieces. The
only connection remaining between the
mangled portion of the limb and the arm
above tho elbow was a muscle, which a
neighbor present severed with his knife
and released Mr. 'Switzer. who then
walked to the house. Drs Crawford
aud Bauks were summoned and attended,
aud performed an amputation about six
inches below the shoulder joint. Mr.
Switzer is doing as well as can be ex
peeled, under the circumstances.

ANALYSIS OF THE HOLY BIBLE.
This is a work of very peculiar inter
est. affording to every one that full and
satisfactory knowledge of tbe Holy Bfble
which (practically) would not be found
in any other work now before fh reli

wrk so carefully selected all passages of
Scripture treating upon any point of Holy
Writ that no one need be at a loss to have
that perfect knowledge of the truth as it
is, the whole Bible, from Genesis to Rev
elation, being carefully analysed and ar
ranged in logical order, so that every
text treating npon any subject is placed
directly before yon. Being thoroughly
indexed, you can opan at once to the de
sired subject. This work contains also
Cradeu's Concordance complete. Pro
nouncing and Interpreting Dictionaries,
a Dictionary of all Religious Denomina
tions, History of the Bible, Maps, En
gravings Sic., making it a work indis
pensable to those who would learn more
perfectly the way of life. Good aud re
liable agents will shortly wait on tbe
citizens of Juniata connty, and give them
au opportunity to examine and judge of
the merits of the work.

THE
AMERICAN WASHER, i
PRICE $5.50. i
I
The American Washer Saves Money, j
Time and -Drudgery.
The Fatigue of Washing Day no longer dread
ed, but Economy, Efficiency, and Clean
Clothing, Sure.
In calling public attention to this little
machine, a few of the invaluable qualities,
(not possessed by anj other washing machine
yet invented.) are here enumerated :
It is the smallest, most compact, most port
able, most simple in construction, most easily
operated. A child, ten years old. with a few
hours' practice, cad thoroughly comprehend
and effectually use it. Ther is m adjust
ing, no screw to annow. no delay in adapt
ing ! It is always ready f ir nse 1 ll U i
perfect little wonder t It is a miniature
kiant, doing more work and of a better qual
ity, than Ihe most elaborate and costly. One
half of the labor is fully saved hy ils nse,
and the clothes will last one-half longer than
by Ihe o'.d plan of the rub board. It will
wash the largest blanket. Three shirts at a
time, washed thoroughly ! In a word, ihe
ablution of any fabric, from a Quill lo a
Lace Curtain or Cambric Handkerchief, are
equally within the capacity of this LITTLE
GEM! It can be fastened to any tub and
taken off at. will.
No matter how deep rooted a prejudice may
exist against Wishing Macbiuex, the moment
this little michine is seen to perform its won
eers, all doubts of ils cleansinp efficacy arM
utility are banished, and the doubter and
detractor al once become the fast friends of
Ibe machine.
We Lave testimonials withrnt end. setting
forth its numerous advantage over all other,
and from hundred who haVe thrown anide
the unwieldy, useless machines, which have
signally failed to accomplish the object prom
ised in prominent and loud sounding adver
tisements. It i as perfect for washing as a wringer is
for wringing.
The price, another paramount inducement
to puruhaxers. has been placed so low. that it
is within Ihe resell nf every housekeeper,
and there is no article ef dnmestin eoodomy
that will repay the small investment so soon.

j All that is aked for tbis GREAT LABOR
; SAVER, is a fair trial. We guarantee each
machine to do its work perfectly.
