Miss Susan Miller, a-resident of New

some Veata Illuminating Fluid. The oil
was brought from the cellar and placed
on the counter, so near a lighted lamp
that the gas from tLe oil cau took fire.
Somo one in the store, iu attempting to

with a friend, I called to see Capt. I). M.
Jaasisou, of Fayette township. After
spending a few hours in very pleasant
conversation, we proposed to look around
over tho farm, and among the many
pleasant scenes which demanded our at
tention, there is one we wish to mention.
It was pointed out to ca by tho Captain.
It was a hitch, tree about 18 inches in
circtvmference, bearing on its body sev
eral inscriptions ; one was I. G., 1798,
standing for Isaac Green, who lived on
tho place at that time. The name of
Stephen Giffin was found on the same
tree, cut in 1811 ; also W. R. for Wil
liam Eothrock, in 1817. These names
and dates are legible, and can be read by
any one who can read, and will continue
to he so till their century is completed.
Tho Captain also told ua that a terrapin
waa found a few harvests past, with the
initials of his father's name J. J. in 1807 ;
also the numbers 1812 and 1817

Jfr. Editor: Among the. business men of

Need I add that such a man is a suitable and
