Legislature, serving one term in the Assem
bly and two in the Senate. In those bodies

I won for himself a high reputation as a legis
lator.
"Mr Eanks was a member of the Constitu
tional Convention of this Sta'c, and also
served one term in our Legislature, being
Speaker of the Assembly. During the last
lour years be has been a resident of this
(Humboldt) County, actively engaged in
successful mining operations. In his death
we have lost a most exemplary and worthy
member of Society and one of our best citi
zens. Our entire people are bis mourners."
The high estimation in which the diseas
ed was held, is still further attested by tiie
action taken at the various meetings occa
sioned by the sad intelligence of his death, in
