TOWN AND COCNTKY.
Tor Sale Cheap. A Life Scliolar-t-liip
ia J. C. MumforJ's Business and
Telegraph College at Philadelphia. A
fine chance for a young man that wishes
to prepare himself for business. Inquire
at the Sentinel Office.
On our first page will he found the pro
ceedings of the Temperance Convention
held in this place on the 22nJ inst.
Tall Timothy. Mr. George Ubil, of
Spruce Hill township, brought into our
office one day last week, a stalk of Tim
othj measuring five feet one and a half
iucbes. Who can heat it ?
Attention is directed to the following
new advertisement in to-day's paper :
Caveny & rjraybill, Cahicet Making;
Jjcvi Reller, Chair Manufactory ; John
McMinn, Ileal Estate at public sale ; Geo
Singer, Real E.-tate at private sale.
The Lutheran Sunday School of this
place held a celebration on Thursday
last. The attendance of scholars, teachers
and visitors was lar.ro. The Juniata Cor
net Hand accompanied them to the grove,
an 1 enliveued the occasion wiili tome ex
cellent music.
Accident. Oa Sunday afternoon last
as a son of Mrs. Conrad was riding a
horse to water, the lad became frightened
j-ml lettiug himself fall off, broke one of
his lc;;s He was taken to Uichardsou's
b itber shop, where the fractures limb
was attended by Dr. Crawford.
Fire. Oa Thursday night of last wcok
the large Tannery, in Tusearora township,
k:i;wn as "Bechtcl's" and owned by our
joung friend Harry Beehtel, caught fire
and was burned to tie ground. It is not
kuwn how the fire originated; by some,
it was thought to be the work of an in
cendiary. The loss is heavy but we be
lieve it is nearly covered by insurance.
Shouts Under this head an ex
change says :
"Oil' receipts from the 1st of April to
the 1st of Ju'y were insufficient to pay
the hands and paper bills."
That is just our lamentable situation,
and we hope any one knowing themselves
indebted to Hie Sentinel office, will take
or case into serious consideration.
Remark able Cow. Mr. George Stra
Jey, of Paradise township, om cow of
the ordinary ppc;ics which is most re
maikably prolific. She is now about elev
en years old. At her third year she had
her first calf, and siucc that time she has
had nineteen, making in all ticca! v calves
in about eight years. This seccis almost
incredible, but it is vouched for by relia
ble persons. York Gazette.
Our friends throughout the- country
are earnestly requested to send us any
item of local interest that may come un.
der their notice. No matter what kind of
language it is in ; all we want is the facts.
Send us notices of marriages, deaths, ac'
cideuts, successful farming, ks. All these
go far to increase the iatercst of a
paper, and between the reader and pub
lisher the benefits is mu'ual.
