decay. The scrofulous contamination is va
riously caused by mercurial disease, low
living, disordered digestion from unhealthy
food, impure air, filth and filthy habits,
the depressing vices, and, above all, by
the venereal infection. Whatever l.e iti
origin, it is hereditary in the constitution,
descending " from parents to children unto
the tiiird and fourth generation ; " indeed, it
seems to be the rod of ilim who says, I wiii
visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their
children." The diseases it originates take
various nnnies. according to the organs it
attacks. In the lungs, Scrofula produces
tubercles, and finally Consumption; in the
plands, swellings which suppurate and be
come ulcerous sores; in the stomal h and
bowels, derangements which produce indi
gestion, dyspepsia, and liver complaints ; on
the tkin, eruptive and cutaneous affections.

fame remedy, viz.. purification and invigora

feeble, foul, or corrupted blood, you cannot
