Mi.ss Meeting. The public must
have noticed the huge haud bills that cov
ered the stables and fences in the borough
of Perrysville and for miles around it, an
nouncing a Democratic 3rldiers' Mass
Meeting at that place, on Friday evening
last. Several thousand persons were ex
pected to be present, and consequently
great preparations were niaue. A com
mittee of arrangements consisting of two
persons were in waiting at every train
that ar ived, as large numbers were ex
pected from abroad, but the traius came
pud weut aud the committee found no one
to escort to the meetins.

The Alteration in the Colombia
DAM.-We have before noticed the lact

forcing a coffer dam at Columbia to
facilitate the passage of fish up the Sus
quenauua. Vt'e have bince learned that
tiie dimeusious of the coffer will be 50
by 73 feet, aud that it is being sank in
the river immediately above the site se
lected for the erection by the Sui-que.

county shore. It is to be 40 feet in
width at the lower edge of the dam, and
will extend up the river a distance of sixty
feet, narrowing to twenty feet width at
the u; per end, and will extend thirty
let up stream from the upper edge of
the dam. The sides will be formed ol i
Iiamed tiuiber, twelve fee wide each, and
filled in with stone. The bottom of the
sluice will have an inclination of five feet

upper end will be twelve inches lower

ed to put in at the head of the sluice a

V. The sluice will be completed by the
