Ridcotion lit Peicm. We have the
pleasure of informing our reader that
domestic goods in Philadelphia are tend
ing downward, and qualities which a abort
time ago were held firm at fifty cents,
wholesale, are now retailed at thirty-fire
eents per yard. This is, indeed, cheering
news for the POOR.
sj,Ir. Blackford, of Patterson, has
purchased the interest of Mr. Kaufman
in the butchering business, and hereafter
proposes to carry on the business on his
own account. Blackford is a good, clever,
honest fellow, kills none but good cattle,
and sells his beef a little cheaper than any
other person in the county. Try Black
ford and be convinced.
- Can't bi BAr. We have received
of Mr. William Whitson, of Fermanagh
township, an ear of corn containing 1272
grains. The grains on this ear will weigh,
if shelled, about 11 ounies, and Slf ears
will make 56 pounds, or one bushel of
shelled corn. Three stalks to each hill,
four feet each way, will allow 8205 stalks,
or 2735 hills to one acre, producing one
hundred bushels of shelled corn. Who

MANY SOLDIERS.
Larox Hog. Mr. Amoe Snyder, of
tbfs borough, killed a hog on last Wed
nesday, which, when cleaned weighed 503
pounds.
Mr. S. had in his bar-room, a box
wherein each individual desiring to guess
at toe weight of the hog deposited twen
ty fire ceuts. The contents of the box,
tmountiDg to about twenty dollars, was.
divided between Messra. Hamilton and
Bbiner, they having guessed the weight
exactly.
Fire. Oc Tuesday morning Novem.
ber, 28th a dwelling house owned and
occupied by n Mr. bearer, near
Thompsootown, caught fire and waa burn
ed to the ground. A considerable portion
of the furniture, bedding lie., was de
etrnyed. Mr. Searer's loss is estimated
. at about sixteen hundred dollars. The
firs originated from a atove pipe passing
through the roof of a back building.
At this season of the year, persons can.
r.oi be too careful with their stove pipes
A 'i'.'.le expense in procuring guards or
tjlir.r for the pipes and a little extra
wilfulness may save hundreds of dollars

. Good Templars. We are pleased to
learn that Lodge No. 73 of Good Tern,
plan, of this borough, is again in opera
tion, and now number about forty mem
bers, and are weekly increasing. Prop
erly conducted, it would, no doubt, be the
means of working much good in our'com--nuntty;
and we know of no place where
here is more room for reformation than
n our own towns. Not vnfrequently is
"the night made hideous" by the Bacha
iialians, and almost daily there are to seen
old and young wending their way along
jut streets, showing by their valki and
ays that they are setting a bright ex
ample for the rising generation. The
Lodge meets every Friday evening in the
Jourt House, and persons desiring to
conaeot themselves with this praise-worthy
order, will find little or no opposition.
Its main object is the reformation of the
inebriate. , .
Patxhx Pwk Our friend end for
