The tree test of a good stock horse. is
his proven ability to transmit his good
qualities to his get and any one about to
engage in the raining of colts, most be
careful, or he will be most woefully de
ceived. The country is lull of young
untried horses, With Right Royal Pedi
grees, owned, and raised by good men,
who undoubtedly believe their horse will
move himself to be a first class stock
horse, and just here, how do they expect
to prove it? why at the expense of those
they can prevail upon to use their untried
horse, and if he is an utter failure, where
is your remedy ? You have none. I hold
and claim that the owner of a stock
horse should rose his a orth at his own .
expense, before trying to scatter his stock
over the country. The above is my
sews, long held and in support of th os e
l iews, I will quite front Itlnrry's work

you have her atone to thank for your

got fifty colts in your section, and yet
you cannot mate your cult. A conclu

words in regard to size of sire. Murry
says: "As to the height and size, I say
unhesitatingly, that the perfect horse in
this respect is ono that stands fifteen
hands and two bodies high, (sixty two
itches.) and weighs ten hundred anti
fifty pounds." This is the standard oh ;
perfection ; an inch either way in - -height
or fifty pounds in weight, is allowable
but for speed and (indurative. fur the pur
pose of general drivingaind for the track,
and, therefore for the purpose of heed
ing, no stallion should weigh less than
one thousand, or more thAn sixteen bun
dred pounds. Neither should he stand
higher than sixty-three inches, or lower
than sixty. The best stuck horse that ,
tint r lived on this continent, and the one
that has proved himself - he most valua
ble, in his descendants, Old Justin Mor
gan was, according to Lindley, about.
fourteen hands high, (sixty inches.) and
weighed ahont nine hundred and fifty
pounds When be' weighed less than
nine hundred, he would pull u heavier
log than any twelve hundred horse that
could be found its the States of Main
and Vermont. He would not only pull
a log that these heavier horses could not
even start, but pull it with two• heavy
men sitting astride of it_ It is also to
proof that there was not a horse to be
found that could beat him, running
eighty rods; trotting was nut then a
fashion_ , Now Messrs. Editors, if, yon

Hair Vigor,
For restoring to Gray Hair its
natural Vitality and Color.
A dressing
which i s at
once agreeable,
healthy, an d
effectual fo r
preserving the
hair. It soon
restores faded
or gray hair
Co its original
color, with (ha
gloss and freshness of youth. Thin
hair is thickened, falling hair checked,
and baldness often, though not always,
cured by its use. Nothing can restore
the hair where the follicles are de.
stroyed, or the glands atrophied and
decayed ; but such as remain can be
saved by this application, and stimu
lated into activity, so that a new
growth of hair is produced. Instead
of fouling the hair with a pasty sedi
ment, it will keep it clean and vigorods.
Its occasional use will prevent the hair
from turning gray or falling off; and
consequently prevent baldness. The
restoration of vitality it gives to tho
scalp arrests and pnwents the forma.
tion of dandruff, which is often so nn..
cleanly and offensive. Free from those
deleterious substances , which make
some preparations dangerous and inju
rious to the hair, the Vigor can only
'benefit but not harm it. If wanted
merely for a HAIR , DRESSING,
nothing else can be found so desirable.
Cont.iining neither oil nordye, it does
not soil white cambric, and yet lasts
long on tho hair, giving it a rich, glossy
lustre, and a grateful perfume. , ,
