The O'Mara flurder Trla.
.We hare been obliged to delay our r tper ono
day on account of the printing of the "Paper
Book" in the O'Mara case, which is to be taken
to the Su;acme Court. The book Is one ol We
largest of the kind ever printed in Susquehanna
county, containing over one hundred pages. It
is of so interesting a character that we have de
cided to issue a limited number of citra copies
for sale, We counsel for the defendants Laving
very courteously given us permission. They
will be completed in a week or ten days.
Circulating Contirenee.
The fourth monthly meeting of the Cireula
ung Conference will be held In the Gibson
Methodist Episcopal church, commencing Tues
day, March lid, In 4, at lo%t m., and will con-

Gibson Presbyterian church—Rev. P. B. Van

dox denominatimis, and all felt eddied and blest
by the services. The Conference ' - circulates"
by invitation. If churches in other pans ut
the county desire a meeting, let their pastors nr
others attentand ask for it, or at least write to

quehanna County, pagaialo-31, a paragraph is
devoted to the Old Free School of Montrose. A
list of the teachers was crowded out, but I send
you n copy, thinking it mny not he without in
terest to some of your renders. Win. J. Turret
taught the school upon Its organization. while
it wits held In the old Academy. E. C. B.

1858, at V 9 mr month—s 4 per month more
than any previous teacher had received. Latin
teachers were paid still trine.
The colored children were taught separately
after Nov., 1857, and Miss H. N. Austin was
their first teacher. Mr. M. J. Corse taught that
winter in the Free School building, end was
succeeded by J. F. Shoemaker, B. Thatcher
(three seasons) and F. D.llunt. While Mr. 11,
was teaching, rt was decided to establish a
Graded School, and to rent the Academy for
that purt.ose.
The ladies who taught the Free School re
ceived occasionally as much as $3.75 per week—
never over $4 ; and when two were employed
at once, each received $2.75. Miss N. Bowman
had taught the female department helore the
school-house was built. After December 1837,
there were the Minoring teachers: Miss P. A.
Smith. Mrs. Carr, Misses Charlotte Root, Helen
Avery, Emeline Brownson, Ann P. Lathrop,
Ruth A. Perkins,Caroline Bowntan,Mrs. Sherer,
Misses L. A. Chamberlin, Louisa Avery, Mary
Warner,Jane Simpson, Helen Grover, Maria A.
Deans, Salome %Varner, Jessie Bissell, Jennie
Mott, and Chulthuel‘
The building was occupied many summers
by.select schools taught by the Misses Caroline
an.) Jane Woodhouse, 11. Fordham, C. G. Read,
A Ale Neil, R. Tuttle, C. B. Birchard, and possi
bly by a few of those mentioned ntsove. Alto
gether, the building and the teachers were a
power for good in the community which it is
pleasant to res.ognize.
