Financial Crisis.
We learn front the Pittston CJlllet, that on
Friday last, owing to ruiners of the Scranton
Tntst Company losing 115120,000 by the failure
of the Notional Iron Company, of Danville, a
great sensation was created and early in the af
ternoon a "run" by depositors was made on the
bank The excitement was intense.
The Directors and officers of the Rank strove
to allay the hot heeling all the time sunnily in
creasing.
The failure of the Meylcrt Bank In that city
several years ago was talked over and over
again and added new fuel to the flames that
seemed to consume every vestige of confidence
in the Directors.
The Trust Company Directors are wealthy
and solid mela, but the deposits arc over one mil.
dollars. The capital stock is $lOl,OOO. Surplus
$50,000. The Stockholders of this class of banks
are usually responsible for twit e the amount of
cipital stock. Till, is one reason perhaps, why
the pis - plc.distrust the soundness of this com
pany.
Messengers were dispettled to neighboring
too tic for funds. Pittston was visited i nuil it is rt
inured that $lO,OOO was obtained.
It is also stated on the authority of a promi
nent Scranton man that a special train left
New 'York last night with a tarp amount of
iniiiMy for the bank.
The officers of the bank assert that they are
able to pay every cent upon demand.
On Saturday all was quiet, and confidence
was again rcsaored.
