Deserters and Bounty
The United States Supreme Court has recent
ly decided an important case in reference to
bounties to be paid to deserters from the army
ender certain circumstances. The claimant in
tbe cue under consideration had deserted; but
had been restored to his position without trial,
and, being allowed to make up his lost time, he
received an honorable discharge from the servioe.
The Paymaster General allowed the claimant
the proportionate share of the bounty up tp the
me of his desertion, anc rinsed it for all rte
utile:went time. The Court of Claims deehle
in favor of the deserter, and the Supreme Court
*fanned judgment, boldin g that his s)..thst; ,.
quest honorable discharge was a formal andll
nal judgment by the Government upon the.rcfi
ord of the soldier, and an authoritative declar
ation that he had left the service In a state of
honor.

, There are but few of our readers who would
ant like to acquire a rapid and neautitul hand.
writing, ftir there is nu one accomplishment so
highly plited as this. The business colleges of
the country . have afforded the best instruction
in this brunch and have succeeded in producing
the Most accomplished penmen. The best pen
man in America to day is Prof. Gasket], Presi
dent 01 the HiYant & Stratton Coll-ge of Man
chester, N. 11. There are few lovers of the beau
tiful art of penmanship who have not heard of
this wonderful penman and many have seen spec
imens of his skill. Ills large specimens have
attracted great attention in New York City and
throughout the country where they have been
placed on exhibition.
He is now engaged day and night sending out
Copies tbr self-instruction, which he writes him
self:expressly for applicant', so that any one
can learn to write at the home fireside. These
contain full printed instructions, and are put up
in large heavy envelopes and sent by mail pre
wired for $1 00 a package. They are all number
ed and so fully explained that no one can fail
to learn rapidly from them. They base been
ordered by thousand,--not by, poor writers
alone, but by the leading teachers of penmae
stip throughout the United stales and Canada-
Our readers would do well to write for a
package, as nothing so complete, beautiful and
useful for self-instructiura wit' ever again be of
fered them.
