Some years ago a pastor of Williamsport ;
came very intimate with a wealthy member of ;
his corgregathin: So strongly was the latter
attached to the pastor that beetcacted a promise
Licit he would preach his funeral sermon. The
Pastor promised that no matter what the dis
tance that separated them, or the difficulties
that might be placed between them, he would,
when informed of the death of the old friend,
drop all else and hasten to the spot that was to
be the testing place of his mortal remains. The
pastor afterwards moved into the vicinity of
Alleutown r and ,a short time. received the sad
annoutteement that his : friend was dead. Instead
of keeping the promise, he replied that he was
enable to be present, as be could not close up
his church, etc. The funeral took place in due
season, but the pastor was not there to perform
the last sad ritei, over the body of his departed
[ friend. The ceremonies, licit[ever, were per
formed by another, and afterwards, when the
will' was opened, it appeared that the old than
had been faithful in death as lie was in life, and
bequeathed :I thousand dollars to his old friend,
! prodded he preached his funeral sermon.

.Ater an absence of some four minutes from
the room in which she left her little son, the
mother alarmed by his shrieks, returned, to find
his clothes on fire. It was too late to save him.
Alter a few hours of intense suffering, the hap
py spirit returned to God who gave it.

WHAT" DYSPEPSIA MAY END IN
Indigestion is not dangerous, sad the faculty.
Perhaps not In itself, while it remains mere indi
gestion ; but look at the consequenect to which
it may lead, and often does when it beconies a
chronic disease. A spark ot 6re ls a small thing.
A pressure of the foot will put it out; a breath
will extinguish it. Yet it may &an powdertuill,
or kindle a flame that will consume a city. In
like manner indigestion may produce gastritis,
cancer of the stomach, congvntion of the bowels,
apoplexy„ liver disease, and many other dange
ous maladies. Is it not wise, then, to cheek it in
the germ? Nothing is more clearly and India- I
pitiably established than that liostetter's Stom
ach Bitters will eradicate dyspepsia in all its
stages. The true policy, however, is to extin
gniall It In the first sages with this wholesome,
powerful, and infallible tonic and alterative: It
to easier to quench a spark than aflame, and it_
is easier to Care dvspepsta when it is first devel
oped, than when it has made headway by neg
lect, and became complicated with other ail
ments. There is not the shadow of a doubt that
,
the bitters are as directly antagonisticto-dy.'smi
i eta as water is to tire. There are thousands of
I cases on recent proving this fact, The remedy
is safe and agreeable. All the liquors of com
merce prescribed as stimulantslearo n sting be,
hind. hut the sting is taken mat of the spirit*
ous basis of this great remedy by vegetable merit
'
cation, and, moreover, the stimulant thus medi
cated is of exceptional purity. Of all tonics taken
as safe-guards or remedies for fever and ague,
billions remittent, and other epidemics. it is the
only one that can uniformly be depended on.
THE SECRET ERRORS OF YOUTH,
Which arc hurrying so many thousand of the
bright and promising youth of both macs to
cartel; and unhonored graves t are but .the dot
cropidngs of a diseased Imagination. Indispo
sition to exertion, loss of Power; toss of memory,
difficulty of breathing, weak nerves, trembling,
horror of disease, dimness of vls:o 1, pain in the
back, hot hands, flushing of the body, dryness of
the skin, pallid countenance and universal la si
Ludo of the musealar system, are among the
most frequent symptoms.
