Paris, and became member of the Congre
gation of oratory. At the dissolution of
that body - by the French Government he
returned to Louisiana, and exercised the,
priestly function in the. parish of Attack

plated securing the influence of the relig
ions-'orilers, and for 'that purpose had
aliened a correspondence with the Abbe,

' At length, after canvassing his sittia

tidential friends, Cot Burr determined to
'forfeit his bond and make his way to
Pensacola.' One stormy night in Febru
ary, 1807, he set forth, Mounted on the
