The proprietors, Messrs. goon *,Means, have purchased everything new Tee gie heuse- 7 4brisiture, - bedding, and. In fact svtiithlikt lade of the hotise will be entirely new. Connected with this establishment is a fire-proof brick barn. We consider it one of the best arranged hotel stables to be found in all this section of the country, cool and well ventilated in summer, and warm in winter:— The proprieters will spare no pains nor expense In making the Ward House rank " A No. 1," in the State- They have secured the services of old and experienced hotel employes. C. M. goon has for several years kept the " Exchange," of Montrose, Pa.,(and previous to fire, " Searle's ha %eV' Capt. Wm. Means was born and brought up in this place. Since his retirement frOm the regular army he has been engaged In business In New Jersey, where by uniform courtesy. het has made very many friends. The Ward House will be open for the reception of guests on the first of September, and we can truthfully say it will not be surpassed by any hotel in this sec tion of the State. The Coal Trade. We find the following in the Mauch Chunk Garette: " The Lehigh Coal and Naviga tion Company are making surveys of their land • short distance above Manch Chunk upon which. it is proposed to store their coal mined when the market is not in a condition to take it. The Delaware & Hudson Canal Co., have done this for a long time and find it very profitable.. The location has not yet been decided upon. This is a new departure for the old company, and we hope it will be fond to be successful in a pecuniary point of view. The coal mined at Bintunit Hhiduring the winter when trade is dull *ill be stored on the side of the river, and gdppoi by canal when prices are better, in the wing and tall. Coal from Newport Mines will 4p4rroted tat the Other side of the Lehighsif the co'rcifitiv deem it advisable. It Is expected that thett will be sometimes as high as two or three hundred thousand tons on hand at these yards." We understand the Villkes-Barre Company, which now ranks third as to the quantity ship ped will also make a similar move at their works in the Wyoming Valley, the exact loca tion not yet being settled upon. The Pennsylvania Coal Co.'s prices for coal at Newberg in Angust to contractors are as tol ' Lump $4 SA Steamer $4 80, Broken $5 00, Egg 5 10, Stove $5 40, Chestnut, $4 60. y'rei g hts to New Tork 70 cents per ton. Delaware & Hudson contract prices for Aug. are : $4 70 for Lump, $4 90 for Steamer, Brok en $5 15, Egg $5 40, Stove $5 75, Chestnut $4 85, at Rondout. A new breaker is being built at No. 9, Dun more, by the Pennsylvania Coal Company, to contain 300,000 feet of lumber. rm. One Price. There is a.-certain class of persons who are netorious bargain hunters. They take „special pride, says au Exchange, in being able to say that ilia° purchased, this or that at a little lower rate then their neighbors and in orda - to accomplish tilletito ng at times to place themselves in ray unenviable penitions. They never think , of purchasing mall they have first succeeded in betting down the shopkeeper in his prices.s ShowtheM an article fora dollar, though worth ridthipontilyluilf..thatatteri, and they will snap trap greedilyat seventy-five cents and carry it mg in triumph. The bargain hunters- imagine themselves shrewder than most other people, but in this , they am generally mistaken. An experienced salesman has no difficulty in detect ing-1.612'4TM and accordingly adopts first prices at figures that will enable them to fall considera bly. This bait generally takes, and the result is that the biter is bitten. Now, we are of the opinion that a • merchant Mislaid adopt a fixed price for every article he has to sell,- The prices of goods should be Marked in plain figures, so that the purchaser might see for himself at a glance what he will hiVe to pay. Having thus plainly declared his prices there should be no abatement. It they are too high for the customer he will know precise ly what to do—seek for the article he needs else where. If they are higher than the prices that rule the market the merchant will he compelled to alter his figures or keep his goods, for people very soon learn to know when goods are sold at fair profits as wcil as when the prices fluctuate according to the ranging capacities of the cus tomer. If this one price system were adopted general ly what a world of trouble would be saved both buyer and seller. Easiness could be transacted with halt the difficulty it now is. There would be tainoof the ehalleriag that nowadays wor ries the very life out of dealers. "We have but one price," Weald Bettie the matter. There would be none of "Won't yea take kw r or "I'll give you so much!' The reply to such remarks would be a rekrence to the placard, "One price only." It is surprising that more of our retail merchants have not adopted this plan Those who have tried it—ond there are such in the city—find it works admirably, and if all would do it shopping would be more agreeable to both buyer and seller. One of our exchanges has the following alle gory, which we commend to the careful consid eration of those gentlemen who, the moment they see anything which displeases them, in the columns of their local journal, rush to the print ing office and cry out, " Stop my paper." "A certain man hit his toe and fell headlong to the ground. He was vexed, And under the influence of anger and self-sufficiency he kicked the earth right saucily. With imperturbable gravity be looked to see the earth itself dissolve and come to naught. But the earth remained, and only his poor foot was injured in the en counter. This is the way of man. An article in a newspaper touches him in a weak spot, and forthwith be sends to stop his paper. With great complacency he looks to see the crash, when he finds he only hits his own toe against a world that dues not perceptibly feel the shock and injures uo one but himself." —Gold enters every g►te except heav en's.
