RULES AND REGULATIONS
The Plowing Match will be held on Fowler
Peck's farm near liarford village on Wedelmday
Oct. sth, 1870. The entry fee will be one dol
lar ($1,00). Exhibitors wishing to compete for
Premiums are requested to have their Animals
and Articles entered on the Secry's Books on
the first day of the Fair if (possible) they must
be entered and on the grounds at ten o'clock of
the second ds.T. No. Animal can complete for
two premiums. Superintendents of the several
departments will have all ardelessystemstically
arranged. The Officers and Superintendents
will be known by their official badges. A suf
ficient police force will be in attendance from '0
o'clock of the first day, until niter the reading
of the premiums the second de y, to protect the
property of the Exhibitors. No provision will
be made for stalling stock over two years old.
Persons exhibiting Hill Blood Stock for pre
miums must show their pedigree to the satisfac
tion of the Jud.m.
Judges reporting to the Secy'e office before
11 o'clock will be furnished a free ticket for din
ner.

A flaunted Hoagie..
A house said to be haunted -is on the
Rondout road. It has been vacant for a
long time, because of these reports. Peo
ple living in the neighborhood declare they
hear strange noises nearly every night is
suing from the aforesaid dwelling. Not
long ago a courageous man said he was
not afraid of the ghost, and offered to stay
in the house over night; he entered the
building at half-past eleven p. tn. but in
a little more than half an hour he came
out, so badly frightened thathe was una
ble to explain what he saw or heard, and
it was not until the next day that he did
explain to his associates. He says : " I
entered the house, locked the door, light
ed a lamp and proceeded to explore the
premises. I first went to the basement;
here everything was correct, and coming
to the hall, I entered in succession the
three rooms on the first floor; nothing
was discovered ip any of the rooms, and I
accordingly went still further, mounting
the stairs, went through the rooms on the
top floor. hate I could discover nothing.

parlor, and stretched myself on the floor,
on a blanket bronght in with me, and
turning down my light, composed myself
for a refreshing sleep. The room became
dark, and all was still, butrjust then I
heard a distant bell toll the hour of mid

lighted up with a peculiar light, and the
north parlor wall opened and a lady with
a huge gash across her right cheek and
forehead appeared in the room. The ap
paration came on me so suddenly that I
was entirely beside myself with fright and
starting to my feet, fled into the hall and
out of the front door into the street. This
is all he could say ; what it wanted he did
not know or did he go back again. He
was of the opinion, that murder had been
commi.ted. He says the face of the ap
parition was not of beauty, but showed
signs of a life of care or torment Now
strange to say comes a story of a horse
and carriage coming away from this house
very early one manning, about four weeks
ago. The carriage contained a man and
woman, the woman screamine - at the top
of her voice and trying to escape from the
carriage; since that time it has again
been seen, at the same early hour, going
in the same direction,:and though seen by
different peisons, they all agree as to that
I was entirely beside myself with the se
tion of the woman (stru gg ling to get clear
of the man.) What it all means it is im
possible to say or at least, we shall not
even attempt an explanation.— Meter
